If an older Hackintosh works with High Sierra, is it generally expected to work with Mojave? I ask because Apple is dropping support for some computers with older processors.

I've got an LGA 1156 i3 Clarkdale system from 2009 (and I'm considering upgrading the i3 to an i7 Lynnfield) that's fine under High Sierra. Will Mojave drop support for something that'll result in problems on this machine? (I've got a GeForce 1050 in it, so that shouldn't be a problem.)

I believe that you will need at least Ivy Bridge for Mojave.

Ah, shoot! So even my Sandy Bridge i7 2600K can't handle it!

Anyone know if it actually won't work with pre-Ivy Bridge if I try it anyway? Is this just Apple's arbitrary attempt to say that certain Macs are obsolete?

I am just going by which real Macs are officially supported. Older generation CPUs may work by using supported system definitions. I don't know.

I appreciate the help. I wonder whether the incompatibility is just because Mojave doesn't support Intel HD 3000 (which isn't an issue for me as I have Geforce cards in both my hacks), or whether there's some specific motherboard support that's needed but Mojave drops.

If on Wednesday Apple releases an upgradeable desktop tower computer, then the point is moot!

If you really need a cheap Mojave compatible system, a few months ago, I picked up an HP Skylake system for $160 and have gotten everything working fine.

Thank you, I would definitely entertain that notion! Where did you get it from - do you have a link? (I searched through your posts for more details, but all I found so far is a comment where you said it was easy to set up.)

I picked it up from Ebay. It's an HP ProDesk 600 G2. It came with an i3-6100 and 8GB. I got it all working with Mojave public beta within a few hours. I haven't written any guide for it yet...

AFAIK, some people installed Mojave on core2duo's. I will try on my X5460 (2008 CPU, same generation as core2duo's :)) once they release the final version.

Thank you - I'm very curious as to whether it works! Presumably you're using a graphics card with it, so that should tell us whether it really does need Ivy Bridge (or later) or whether all it needs is a Metal-compatible card.
