macOS Sierra PB: Need testers for new AMD Radeon drivers!

After the whole day of struggling, even installing on another HDD, i still can't make HIS RX 470 working (i'm not sure whether my card is faulty, the exact model name is in my signature). All DP ports don't work. HDMI works without acceleration. DVI: not tested.
Some configurations that didn't affect the output:
  • Primary display in BIOS:
    • if 'Auto' or 'PCIe', it simply disabled iGPU, i still can boot to system (of course with no acceleration).
    • if 'iGPU': there will be accl on mainboard's HDMI, no affect on HDMI of the card.
  • Primary display in OS: result is same as above.
  • With or without FBName, ATI Inject ID, LoadVBios, PatchVBios, InjectEDID, etc.
  • SMBIOS: iMac or MacPro
Switched back to 10.11.6 atm, will try again if there are something new.

good news!

someone has opened a ticket on sourceforge regarding the black screen problem with newer amd cards in clover. (this is something we should have done a long time ago lol)
since this problem doesn't exist on real mac pro's, i'm confident some clover devs will take care of this issue..

polaris get's more and more attractive to me

I'm pretty sure Slice already knows about this since El Capitan introduced AMD issues. There's a long thread over @IM where the sleep/wake issue was discussed (which is closely related I think), but we didn't get anywhere.

No, the 67EO definition is what has been changed in the 4000 and 4100 kexts, but now as of beta 4 you can also use the 67FF definition to make the card accelerate. I tried the 67FF definition prior to beta 4 and it didn't work. Now it does.

I did a fresh install of Sierra did the beta updates and did not modify anything and I was able to get support using only EDID injection in clover with a RX 480 using the 67EF, and 67FF definitions. When I used the 67EO definition with EDID the card did not get metal support. Its possible that the 67EO definition is for a new AMD card and may not work so well down the road as apple updates the drivers. At least we have a backup 67FF to use as well now.

Could you please tell me what values I need to enter into Clover configurator to get EDID working properly with a rx480?
Many thanks

Rhys

Hmm, is there any news if clover devs are working on it? I'm getting restless over here and thinking should i download the code and give it a try :p Though i know basic C, know little to nothing about low level system programming :|

EDID injection for RX 4XX cards only works in the beta versions of Sierra beta 4+ otherwise if you're in the public release of Sierra (standard version) you will need to do the kext change.
Download one of the latest versions of clover, once installed when at clover screen go to options button then go to graphics settings and EDID settings should be at the top of this section. Under vendor use 0x1002, for device ID use 67FF, or 67EF if in the public beta Sierra 12.1. It will give you minimal support. Altering the AMD4100kext will give you better support and there are two ways to do it. One is to alter the kext in extensions and the other is to use the FakeSMCKext method.

If you're in the public release Sierra 12.0. If you alter the AMD4000kext in the Baffin section you should not need To add EDID. Do not inject ATI or use EDID when doing the kext fix.

The 12.1 final version has been released. I'm guessing this should now have the 4100kext so EDID injection should have good support in this official release?
Previously I've been using beta4 and a modded 4100 kext.

The thread at IM looks dead to me. We don't need to "blindly start coding" but get to the bottom of this issue. If we figure out the crucial difference between Hacks and genuine Macs it shouldn't be too difficult to implement the necessary patches in Clover.

Hello, im new in this forum, and i want to make my first hackintosh Sierra.

My setup is:

i5 6600k
MSI Z170A Pro Gaming Carbon
RX 480

I saw lot of thing about the RX480 is not fully compatible and black screen at boot. Now at this moment what is the solution please? What i need? see klex... but don't understand

My hackintosh is for discover the macOS, i can only use the chipset graphic intel? is work?

(Sorry for my english)

We should all wait for the new macOS Sierra 10.12.2 develper seed to see the newly added drivers.

I bet there will be new Polaris (and maybe Pascal) drivers and I personally hope they will add native support for NVMe SSD drives.

If we dont get a new seed today/tomorrow, we will definately know more on Thursday (Hello again Apple event keynote).
