[Guide] El Capitan on the Intel Skylake NUC

Not open for further replies.
NUC6i5SYH (6260), El Capitan 10.11.6

AppleHDA kext is now invisible, and sound does not work after copying it from El Capitan on my USB installer. I used Terminal to make System folder appear so I could copy
No matter what I try, I can't get it to be recognized by my system.

What am I doing wrong here? Did I forget some command to restore this and get sound working? Please see screenshot of the invisible AppleHDA kext as it is seen in my System folder.

Did you patch ACPI correctly for AppleHDA?

Also, my guide has more fixes for AppleHDA...

Thanks for your reply. I built my system using ammulder's original guide, and everything has been fine except for audio going out occasionally. I followed your guide under "known problems" (rebuild cache w/sudo code) but audio still gone. I'm a novice, so I'm not sure what you want me to do now. Do you want me to run the developer tools from git and go from there? in other words, run developer tools under "post install" on your guide even though I didn't start from scratch using your guide in the first place? I hope I'm making sense here. Please advise.

Attach ioreg as ZIP: http://www.tonymacx86.com/audio/58368-guide-how-make-copy-ioreg.html. Please, use the IORegistryExplorer v2.1 attached to the post! DO NOT reply with an ioreg from any other version of IORegistryExplorer.app.

Provide output (in Terminal):
Code:
kextstat|grep -y acpiplat
kextstat|grep -y appleintelcpu
kextstat|grep -y applelpc
kextstat|grep -y applehda

Attach EFI/Clover folder as ZIP (press F4 at main Clover screen before collecting). Please eliminate 'themes' directory. Provide only EFI/Clover, not the entire EFI folder.

Attach output of (in Terminal):
Code:
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions && sudo kextcache -u /

Compress all files as ZIP. Do not use external links. Attach all files using site attachments only.

Hi
i try to follow your guide, but:
  1. I Select Boot Mac OS X from Installer labeled "EXTERNAL;
  2. I see the apple logo and a progress bar as the installer loads.
  3. After a couple of progress bars I see the a Traffic Not Parking screen and the system Hung.
The difference is that my NUC6i5SYH, bought last week, has bios 45 on board.

Any idea please? Any help?
Thanks in advance Mario

I am using NUC6i5SYH, Iris 540
I had read this artical https://pikeralpha.wordpress.com/2016/03/25/os-x-10-11-4-build-15e65-and-skylake-graphics-support/ and test result is that 0x19260002 or 0x19260004 is mapping to HD540. I am using DELL P2715Q 4K display, these two ids can unlock all scale mode in display configuration especially the 2560x1440. Other ids cannot run in 2560x1440 scale mode.

Maybe I'll try 0x19260004 as I'm having a problem with the NUC6i5SYH video going blank after the monitor is turned off or switching inputs on my monitor (hooked to the NUC w/HDMI). The NUC does show the video for a few seconds to many minutes after the video switch or turning the monitor off, but then the screen goes a random shade of gray and the reboot key command doesn't work.

Previously, when connected via miniDisplayport, when the NUC slept the monitor or I switched video input to another machine, the monitor wouldn't detect a signal when switching back to the NUC but I could reboot with the key command and get my NUC back in ~30 seconds.

Does this sound like something to troubleshoot or just try a reinstall of the OS? I followed ammulder's directions for this Skylake NUC setup. My Broadwell NUCs don't have this problem.

I got the same sign a couple of times but then after another restart, the setup continued properly. Now that I think about it, I changed to another USB drive and built the Installer again before it worked.

I think this is a common bug in intel driver. No matter the id you choose, it will go to black screen after sleep or turn display off. My walkaround is that click the power button to put nuc to sleep, one second after you click power button, move the mouse or keyborad to wake up the nuc, the display will back to normal.
