Clover Boot config (UEFI)
View attachment 162833View attachment 168313

Files for config.plist, kexts, and ssdt.aml (overclocking) attached below.

Whether you are doing a fresh install or a direct upgrade, if you have an nVidia graphics card and using Mac Pro 6,1 SMBIOS, you have to patch the AppleGraphicsControl.kext or you display will turn off during boot:

1) Boot with nv_disable=1
2) Manually patch AppleGraphicsControl.kext by applying fix #4 in the following post:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/graphics/...ver-install-loading-problems.html#post1016777

3) Remove nv_disable=1

4) Reboot

Some more notes
  • Please use the random generation function of Clover Configurator to make your own unique SMBIOS values.
  • Example config.plist has a random generated Mac Pro 6,1 but is for illustrative purposes only. Please generate your own.
  • As is, iMessage will not work so you will need to fill out more IDs by following the iMessage guide.
  • Example config.plist is for Fake CPU ID is set for i7-5820K, you can see other values in this thread. This is a critical step in order to have stable operation and performance.
  • Example config.plist is for GPU settings are for nvidia web drivers.
  • Motherboard BIOS settings of note
    • AHCI enabled
    • UEFI enabled
    • XHCI set to Smart Auto
    • XHCI/EHCI handoff enabled
  • Sound
    • Use latest Voodoo HDA http://sourceforge.net/projects/voodoohda/
    • Install pkg and reboot
    • I found that the input gain is set way too high for my speakers and headphones which results in loud static. I lowered the gain, but with each reboot the gain would go back to default. Here is how I got around it:
      • Add voodoohdasettingsloader to your startup. It is located in your apps folder.
      • Find VoodooHDA.kext and open the package and locate the info.plist. Open and look for input sensitivity. It will be set to 90 so change it to what you think works for you. I set mine to 5.
      • To make sure you get sufficient volume output open up the Voodoo configurator in System Preferences. There are two drop down options on the left hand side. On the bottom one, there are 2 options. Check out each of those and one of them should let you change both Input Gain and PCM level. Make sure PCM level is near maximum. This should allow you to minimize input gain and get good volume output.
  • USB 3.0
    • My sample config for USB fix was applied after initial install so you may want to remove the patches and kexts until after initial installation. Your USB 2.0 ports should work without any mods needed.
    • The USB configuration is specific to Gigabyte boards so other brands may or may not work.
    • In my sample config.plist there are 3 DSDT patches and 1 kext injection related to USB 3.0. Just make sure you add those. If you want to see the hex values, load my sample config.plist in Clover Configurator.
    • Add the USB and PCI kexts that are in my kext zip file

11/27/15 Edit - Changed XHCI/EHCI Handoff to "Enabled" in BIOS. This does not change anything regarding USB ports in 10.11.1, but I occasionally got a random reboot at the login screen and I noticed my DAC was trying to connect when this happened. Changing this BIOS setting to Enabled appears to have fixed this problem.

12/17/15 Edit - Added USB 3.0 fix, added sound fix, corrected display port kext patch that is no longer compatible with 10.11.2. Updated sample config.plist and kexts.

1/4/16 Edit - Clarified Audio and USB 3.0 fixes.

Thanks for this guide! Thanks to you i have x99 ud4 working for my system on el capitan with mac pro 6.1 system definition!

Quick question, im still new to clover, i cannot seem to get usb 3.0 Enabled on my board. Can you explain it in a way someone who is unfamiliar with clover can understand? I didnt modify the config.plist and i copied the kexts attatched in your post to the efi partition in folders 10.10 And 10.11 But didnt get usb 3.0

Also.i cant seem to get windows drives to pop up in the bootloader screen with your config plist. How can i view them as i had no problem before. Thanks in advance i appreciate all your work! im using clover configurator to edit the plist. System runs smooth on el capitan.

By the way have you had any random reboots on yosemite or el capitan? The x99ud4 has a known issue i think with clover and mac osx. Randomly reboots when watching youtube sometimes, dont know why.

Havent got sound yet but dont care much. So havent even tried i use usb sound

Hello mate!
I still have a couple of problems and I'm almost using the same machine that you have.

You said you activated the c states and eist in bios? is that right? Even if I use the fakecpuid I don't get my machine to overclock correctly. And also no power management. It uses the whole time 3.3 GHz.

Can you please tell me where to activate these things in the bios. Looks like I'm kind of blind. sry.

Thanks in advance.

Same problem here...
If I activate Eist the cpu is running x12 o x33 but not overclock at all.
Any step by step help would be wonderful!
Thanks!

For USB, the only thing I can suggest is to make sure your BIOS settings are the same as I noted with both EHCI and XHCI set to "enable". If that doesn't do it, you may want to post on the USB thread lead by rehabman. Another option is to purchase an OOB supported USB 3.0 card that doesn't need any kexts or modifications. I have one as well as USB sound card because I suspect later OS X updates may cause issues with both USB 3.0 and sound.

For Windows, I have a Windows 8.1 drive installed and have no issues with it showing on boot. If this is your first time using Clover, your Windows drive has to be installed as UEFI GPT. MBR will not work on Clover. If this is the case, your options are to reinstall Windows or use F12 BIOS option at boot to manually select Windows boot.

I did experience quite a few reboots early on, but adding the fake CPU ID seems to have resolved this completely for me. I just ran 72 hours of audio/video compression and no problems.

Little intro for hackintosh overclock noobs would be awesome.
As far as I understand OS X adopts the BIOS overclocking and any Power Management Features?
So far OS X is not able to do any PM itself on X99?!

So if no overclocking is working it's because of the BIOS?
Are these conclusions right?

Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the reply! I have gotten windows drives to pop up in el capitan bootloader now, looks like it's working!

I havent had a reboot yet on el capitan i hope that fakecpuid works! I have set ehci to enable, but i do not see usb3 working in my system description. I dont need to edit any thing in the plist or install the kexts to s/l/e do i?

Also for sound i cant use the way it used to work on yosemite huh? I had a patched version of applehda, this no longer works i assume?

How are you checking for USB 3.0? Any USB 2.0 device you plug into a USB 3.0 socket will show up under the USB 2.0 list and not under USB 3.0. I use a USB 3.0 thumb drive. It shows up under USB 3.0 list and I test with a large file copy and it does exceed USB 2.0 max of 480 mbps.

For sound, there is an updated AppleHDA kext patch by Toleda so you may want to view that thread for instructions. I could never get it to work before or after El Cap so I gave up.

Thanks a lot!! And would you mind sharing a screen of the overclocking settings and maybe even your config.plist and ssdt.aml?

Do you get the CPU to idle if you disable the Speedstep functions?

I am going to the Apple Menu > About This Mac > System Report > USB

Using the kexts included in your zip file and your config.plist I am getting usb 2.0 but usb 3.0 doesn't show up. I was able to make it appear one time by changing around some stuff, but never able to make a device appear as plugged in under usb 3.0. Now that I have changed so many things in config.plist I cannot get usb 3.0 bus to appear anymore, so I just went back to your original config.plist and didn't change anything.

Can you attach a screen shot of your system report showing usb 3.0. Also is there anything else I need to do? Really would like to have usb 3.0 just in case someone brings an external hd over or something and needs to copy large files (I don't use usb for much file transferring, but it's nice to have)

Good news about audio. I have onboard audio working! Its really easy so I attatched it to this post! Should be better than VoodoHDA! Keep in mind audio is sometimes off and you may need to reinstall the kext if it gets messed up.

Here is my x99 ud4 audio guide for 10.11.2 (same as yosemite as well):

1. Download my attached zip
2. Copy the applehda.kext (in attached zip) to System/Library/Extensions (will overwrite current kext so make sure you back that up just in case)
3. Reboot
4. After rebooting now run audio_alc_x99-hda-100_patch.command
5. Reboot
6. Audio works now have fun!

(I take no credit for this, the audio kext I got from a Tonymacx86 member named "Boomr" and the patch is from "Toleda", I just put it together in a simple guide form)

Zip Is attatched

Also just another quick post: You can easily get windows drives to pop up in clover bootloader by using clover configurator. Go to "Gui" menu, and under "scan" section, select "Auto=Yes"

To make an MBR formatted windows drive bootable from clover go to the "Boot" menu in clover configurator, then on the top right section there will be a drop down menu with the word "Legacy" under it, change it from "PBR" to "LegacyBiosDefault"

that's it for getting windows drives working!
