Motherboard
GA-Z77N-WiFi
CPU

Graphics
On board graphics
Mac

Mobile Phone
  1. iOS
I build the Mini mac with Gigabyte GA-Z77N-Wifi Motherboard. CPU Intel Core i7 3,4Ghz, 16GB Ram 1333 MHz DDR3, EVGA GTX650 1 GB ram. Hdisk SSD Sandisk 240Gb. Mountain Lion installed.
After install everything works fine for some days but then without any changes suddenly when power up I'm not able to connect to the Internet. :banghead:
All other macs and PC's in house work without any problem!

looking to the network config there is an ipAddress that is absolutely out of the ip range that the DHCP server could generate.
It is always then in the range of 169.254.xxx.xxx Network Masking is 255.255.0.0
I tried to give it a fixed ip address but still this does not fix it. The address then is not changed but no internet connection.
Also ping to the router does not work in that case.
I read several posts with this issue but no solution. The given suggestions I tried like different settings in Multibeast or download the network driver directly from realtek. Also selecting a different driver does not fix it.
I did a cold-start (fresh install with disk format to be sure nothing from the previous install resides) several times and was very careful to select the proper Multibeast settings for the Network card.

Again works fine for some days but then again suddenly the same issue.
Is this a Gigabyte issue and are other Motherboards more reliable network wise?
It is no option to put a network card in the PCI slot because this is occupied by the graphics card.

For the rest it runs like hell. But Internet connection is a necessity for me.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions or advices.
:)

Hans

Did you try Realtek-Apple or Realtek-Lnx from Multibeast ?

Yes, I tried all available drivers in Multibeast. Don't help.

This may not be of great help to you since you wrote you had already tried all of the drivers available in MultiBeast. The issues you describe are the same issues I ran into with Lnx2Mac's and Hnak's drivers. After installing the official Realtek driver ethernet has been working reliably without an issue. I suggest you give the official Realtek driver another chance. Try this:

1. remove the ethernet connections in Network Preferences pane (not sure if this step is really necessary but this is what I did)
2. install the Realtek driver v2.0.6
3. reboot and see if it gets fixed.

Thanks Jimmy

I got a kext via an other site and tried that one first.

If it again gets unstable I will follow your suggestion.

B.t.w.
Where did you find this driver?
On the Realtek site I could not find it.

Best regards
Hans

You may need to replace the the miniPCI card with one that works natively. You have an awesome board and I had one for a while, but one of the things I had to do to get Wi-fi at all was replace the card. Try the Dell1515 mini-PCI cards. These work right out of the box.

Pci slot is occupied by the graphics card, as I mentioned in my post.

Driver is on the Realtek site. Take the one for 10.7. it works on 10.8 too, and it is actually the same driver that is included in MultiBeast.

Pci slot is occupied by the graphics card, as I mentioned in my post.

There is a half mini-PCIe slot on your motherboard that has an preinstalled Intel WiFi/BT card. You can replace it with a WiFi card that works out of the box by following Zeitgeist's advice.

Thanks Jimmy and Zeitgeist!

Till now (fingers crossed) with the other kext it works fine.
The problem I had was with the on-board UTP 1Gb Network ports.
Is this wireless board causing conflicts with the GB ports?

Wireless I do not use because of NAS usage during Photoshop.
I also was not aware that the wireless adapter can be removed.
Thanks for the tip!

I keep this thread updated to see if now it is stable or your advise is still needed.
Also for others whit this issue.

Best regards

Hans
