Hi,

i need an exchange folder, so i decided to format my 3TB HDD in ML 10.8.2 in exFAT. But if i want to boot, the system hangs up at the Gigabyte Logo. If i disconnect the HDD it boots normally. I have to disconnect the HDD and format it into my USB HUB. Afterwards teh system boots again with the 3TB HDD. But if i format again in exFat, the system hangs at the logo... weird?!

Mainboard GB Z77-DS3H

Anyone an idea?

Hello,
exactly the same issue for me - didn't find a solution yet. I'm in contact with gigabyte already. If I connect the exfat harddisk to another (ASUS) mainboard, it'll boot fine. So looks that the mainboard is the reason.

Okay... please post in here if you get a solution from GB. I formatted my 3tb hdd to NTFS and installed Paragon NTFS for Mac. Works fine...

Divide the disk into 2T + 1T. Should work.

As 148248 said is a way to go.
Larger than one terra causes boot problems.
There is also the dreaded boot 0 error with large format HD. (see article).
Smart way nowadays is to use an SSD boot disk and use slow HD for data.

There are probably many reasons to cross access files, but cloud storage obviates a lot of them.
So does sharing on Mac. Shared files on Windows is not as slick as on a Mac.
Macs have built in web servers and you can set up ftp directories.
I make these suggestions because I have seen about half a dozen tales of woe with Paragon.
I think some people pick this to avoid having another drive which usually means they do not have a working bu.
They eventually end up in bind with one or both operating systems.
The story goes "I recently installed Paragon and ......"
I think Parallels or some form of VM is what they really need.

Paragon may be a fine product on Mac , but caution might be suggested on a hackintosh.

Add me to the list with this issue. I tried the same format and with two different brand drives. Same issue.

Just found this thread, I have exactly the same problem :(

Very frustrating. Z77 mobo here.

Maybe we should all contact GB to push for a fix?

I have my 3tb as my data drive (ssd is boot) so I can unplug its sata cable, start to boot and then plug it back in before OSX looks for my Home folder on it and it works, but its obviously a crap solution.

Like above mine worked fine when fat32 or NTFS but obviously they are limiting for OSX/big files :(

Having same problem!! Anyone know of a solution??

Hello guys! I got mine to work!!

I have a 3TB hard drive. I used parted magic. I used the disk utility application on it and reformatted the hard drive again to exFAT. I believe OSX corrupts the GUID table when it tries to format the hard drive to exFAT. If you don't want to buy parted magic, try using a free linux distro like ubuntu.

Good luck, please let me know if it works and spread the word.

Foreveryoung, you're awesome. Booted with parted magic usb and reformatted using exfat and it works in mac and I'm able to reboot/boot without hang. I'm not sure its our motherboards that have problems with the way Mavericks formats exfat partitions or if its just mavericks. I have a mountain lion install on an older non achi motherboard and i am able to boot fine with exfat drives formatted in mac.
