Hi,

I have setup a El Capitan on a Skylake (Asus Maximus VIII Ranger). I have purchased and installed one set of G.Skill F4-3200C16D-32GVK ( http://www.gskill.com/en/product/f4-3200c16d-32gvk ). That is, I have installed 2 sticks of DDR4, each stick of DDR4 being 16 GB in size.

The operating system appears to use the entire 32 GB.

However, in theMenubar / Apple / About this Mac window:
The overview tab reports: 16 GB 3200 MHz DDR4
The memory tab reports: Your Mac contains 4 memory slots, each of which acceptsa 3200 MHz DDR4 memory module. 16 GB installed (2 sticks of 8 GB, with 2 slots free).

I am aware of the SMBIOS tweak, as described here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capitan-desktop-guides/179221-skylake-starter-guide.html .

When I try to use Clover Configurator (Vibrant Edition) 4.25.0 , there is no option to set 16 GB of memory per stick.

Has anybody else got any experience with using 16 GB sticks with El Capitan? Is there any special care required over and above the guidance provided in http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capitan-desktop-guides/179221-skylake-starter-guide.html .

Thanks.

Hi All,

I experimented by changing the SMBIOS settings in the config.plist file on a USB boot stick by using Clover Configurator. I used the following memory settings...

Clover_2x8.png

After saving those changes, I then double clicked on the EFI/EFI/CLOBER/config.plist file to open the plist file in Xcode. (You need to install Xcode development environment to do this next step).

I then modified the memory size from 8192 to 16384:

Config_plist.png

I then save the config.plist file. If i open the config.plist file again in Clover Configurator, i get:

Clover.png

Okay., So I reboot the system from the USB drive which has the modified memory settings...
The result is as follows:

Mem1.png

and

Mem2.png

... So it *seems* so far, that OS X (both the operating system and menumeters) now recognises my 32 GB of memory. However, apple seems to have problems reporting the fact i have 2x 16 GB sticks... :)

I will use my system for a while under this configuration over the next few days, and report on how it goes in practice..

Ok, I had this same problem. I had installed 2x8GB Corsair Vengeance LPX on a Z170a-UD5 with 6700k. El Capitan was only recognizing the memory as 2x4GB.

I followed the steps above, and got OS X to recognize the entire 16 GB, however with the weird error message quoted below.

I was able to solve this problem. The solution was simple. I just went back into Clover Configurator and added the part and serial number (I made one up) to the memory configuration. Initially, I had left it blank, just like rabbit.exoskeloton did in this post

I then save the config.plist file. If i open the config.plist file again in Clover Configurator, i get:

So if you are having this problem, try adding the part number and serial number to your memory. My memory in the "About this Mac" screen is now showing as dual channel 2x8 GB with two available slots, just like it is supposed to.

Hope this helps somebody.

The fix described by rabbit.exoskeleton seems to work fine for my configuration. Thanks!

Also, I'd like to report that it is correctly reported in About this Mac, as of OS X 10.11.5

System:
i7-6700k
Gigabyte GA-Z170x-Gaming 5
32gb of Crucial 2400mhz DDR4 (16gb x 2)

Hey, it is awesome! My mackintosh came back to being normal. Thanks.

I did this process but instead of using Xcode development enviroment i just opened the config.plist directly from the Efi partition in my SSD and i used TextEdit app to open the file and change memory size in both strings for each memory. After that save the file, open clover configurador again and save.

Reboot the system and....voilá! 32gb is there!!!

I had this problem with two 8gb sticks of DDR4 RAM with essentially identical ASUS/Skylake/Nvidia hardware and found two simple solutions on this website.
One was simply to reboot and then the correct amount of RAM and correct RAM speed would always be recognized. Inconvenient but reliable.
A better and simple solution was to open clover configurator and if it allows you to upgrade to the latest version of Clover click and reboot. The clover graphics change but otherwise everything works the same.
I like simple.

Unfortunately this link doesn't work anymore! I'm stuck at this problem, please send the right link. It would be very much appreciated! Thanks!
