[SOLVED] GA-Z77-DS3H i7 3770 - Wrong clock speed, sluggish. System definitions problem?

I recently changed my motherboard and updated my system to 10.9 . I'm using a ga-z77-ds3h with my i7 3770 now, and it was very simple to install. I'm just having a couple of issues now. First, my USB 3.0 seems to not be working (I haven't installed the USB kext yet because I heard it was supposed to work out of the box. I imagine installing it might fix it). My real problem though, seems to be with System Definitions. It seems like no definition I choose works well enough.

The clock speed is always wrong, it's supposed to be 3.4, but it's been varying between 2 and 2.9, depending on the definition. The system also seems sluggish and my geekbench scores are pretty low. So far the best I did was with iMad 11,1, which gives me a 2.9 GHz clock and a score of about 6000. I used to get double that before, on 10.8.2 with my GA-Z68X and iMac 12,1. The iMac 3,1 SD gave me 2.8 GHz and 3000 on geekbench! Any idea what might be the best way to go with this? I'm using an EVGA GT640 video card, btw.

Thanks a bunch!

[SUP]Any ideas? I have tried pretty much every system definition but none seems to work properly. iMac 11,1 gave me the best results so far, but the clock speed changes every time I reboot. The geekbench scores are still nothing to write home about. Anyone?[/SUP]

Someone has just posted this link for clock speed being reported incorrectly:

Go to UEFI Bios and disable EIST in CPU features, save and exit.

Thanks, Adrian. I disabled EIST but unfortunately I'm still getting the same problem. Currently using iMac 11,1 and it's giving me 2.0 GHz. =/

Okay, I got it. In the end it was something simple, I feel silly.

Turns out I hadn't installed the cooler properly when changing the motherboard, so the system was overheating. 100 degrees celsius within seconds of booting. That's what was limiting the speed and performance.

I reinstalled the cooler with new thermal paste, the temperature went down and performance way up. Oddly enough, the clock is still wrong, though now it says it's 3.9 GHz when it should be 3.4. I don't mind, as long as it's performing well. I just got a 12500 on Geekbench. Less than what I expected but certainly much better than what I was getting before. I will try switching the System Definition now to MacPro 3,1 and see what happens (I'm currently at iMac 12,1).

Thanks a bunch!
