Hi!

I just got a succesfull build of yosemite !

GA-97M-d3h
8gb crucial ballistix sport
I74790K

But i need 2560x1440 output on dvi. I've got it working on hdmi with switchresx, but graphics are slow @ 32hz.

Any advise on a cheap graphics card, passive cooled (audio editing workstation) is the onlything i need!
The graphic cards in the buying guide are all fan cooled and a bit expensive.

Will something simple like a Geforce GT210 of GT610 work?

First point is your motherboard should support this resolution from the HDMI port with at least a HDMI 1.4a cable as minimum specification.

A GT210 and GT610 are completely unsuitable for your requirements. Neither of them even come close to your HD4600 graphics. You would need a GT640 or above. Passively cooled versions are available but you might find a GT740 GDDR3 or GTX 750 or above easier to get and perhaps at around the same price.

This will give some perspective of what you may need for a GPU:

Intel HD4600 are about the same as a GT 630 GPU for reference

Yes the mobo can put 2570x1440 on hdmi out.

but my iiyama XB2779QS-1 only accepts this resolution on it's dvi input. hdmi is 1920x1080 max.

so i just need a simple card witch can go to 2560x1440 on dvi.

the onboard intel 4600 is 1920x1080 max on the dvi!

I've read that 1.4a hdmi is just a marketing thing cause any good hdmi cable supports this resolution.

Standard resolution is 1920x1080P for HDMI - The information that you have seen about 1.4a HDMI is easily proven wrong. There have been many versions of HDMI and even the original can transfer 1080P, but higher resolutions do not work on these cables. You might find a suitable HDMI to DVI-D cable that would work. Adaptors may also only provide enough bandwidth for 1080P.

I suggest looking at a GT640, GT740 GDDR3 or better the GDDR5 models. These are all suitable basic cards for your needs.

Installed A GT610.

Disabled onboard graphics, and did a reinstall with -x -graphicsenabler=No

it worked ootb!

full 2560x1440 resolution on DVI out.
