Hi guys!

I'm incredibly new to all this but I was so inspired by what you all do that I thought I'd give it a go myself.

I purchased the following:

  • LG Electronics UM67 29UM67 29-Inch Screen LED-lit Monitor
  • Intel NUC Kit NUC5i7RYH Barebone System BOXNUC5I7RYH
  • Crucial 16GB Kit (8GBx2) DDR3-1600 MT/s (PC3-12800) 204-Pin SODIMM Notebook Memory CT2KIT102464BF160B / CT2CP102464BF160B
  • Samsung 850 EVO 500GB 2.5-Inch SATA III Internal SSD (MZ-75E500B/AM)
  • D-Link Wireless N-150 Mbps USB Wi-Fi Network Adapter (DWA-121)

I'm using this tutorial www.tonymacx86.com/el-capitan-desktop-guides/171942-guide-el-capitan-intel-broadwell-nuc.html

I am at Step 2 of the El Capitan Installation the stage where Clover has the Boot Mac OS X from USB option.
I click on that and one of a few things happen:

  • Prohibited Sign
  • Hung Apple Logo
  • Apple Logo, loading bar and writing in the background. It then restarts the computer back to the Clover page.

That's what comes on the screen.

How can I fix that?

Can't I just backup my current OS X drive onto an external hard drive through Time Machine and then put my new SSD in my Macbook and put all of it on the new SSD and then put the SSD back into my NUC? Would that fix the problem?

First thing that draws my attention is the D-Link wifi dongle, make sure that is not plugged
in during the install. Can cause a KP. Have you disabled the internal Intel wifi card in the BIOS ?
That is not compatible with OS X and may cause a KP. Start with those two steps and report back.

Initially I had both the dongle attached and the WLAN and Bluetooth enabled on this computer but I turned that off early in the process. Turning it off has not changed the result. I still get the KP and restarts.

What would happen if I take out the SSD of the Macbook that I am using to talk to you and then put my new SSD in there? Could I use that to install El Capitan and then transfer it back into the NUC?

It's best to install the way the guide by Ammulder shows. That way you can discover the problems that are causing a KP and fix them. Hopefully he will see your thread and respond as he has a lot of NUC experience and knowledge that he can share.

It looks like a panic in AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext, which as far as I can tell is not the correct graphics system to be using. If you're still booting from your USB drive, you might try putting the SSDTs for the NUC5i7 into the EFI/CLOVER/ACPI/patched/ directory on the EFI partition of the USB drive, and one of those should make it recognize the Iris 6100 graphics correctly.

Edit: I should add, I sometimes get the prohibited sign during an install, and just reboot and try again and it works, so make sure you get it a few times in a row before giving up. :) Once OS X is installed and set up right I don't get that any more.

Which graphics system should I use? The only options are:

Intel HD 3000
Inject ATI
Inject NVIDIA

I initially chose the Intel HD 3000?

I formatted the drive again getting rid of everything. I'll wait to hear back about what to use.

I hope I have the correct SSDT's.

EDIT: I just reread the UniBeast instructions and found that I shouldn't have checked any of them. I'll try again.

EDIT 2: It's working now!

Great to hear you have it working....

in ammulder's guide on his first page he talks about downloading the ssdt files and adding them to the efi partition... I found with my nuc that this improved the graphics performance and was necessary to complete the install.

Also I would double check and find out if imac15,1 should be the correct system definition.

Multibeast works well to get some basics and load the clover bootloader but it does not give you everything you need as if you had bought supported equipment off the guide.
