I found a kext that I need to allow my Ethernet and wireless to work. I, however, do not know how to get it to install. I have no extensions folder in my library folder for instance. When I do it manually in the terminal I cannot seem to get it to work. Can anyone help me step by step?

Here is what I am trying to put in my kext files:

Thank you! It is because of people like you that I am successfully running my very first Hackintosh. Build guide forthcoming, and you can be in it! If that isn't incentive I do not know what is.

The manual instructions there looked pretty accurate, but you should probably download something like Kext Wizard, or Kext Beast which makes installing kext quite easy.

Thanks I will give them a try!

Still need help. Tried kextbeast and I get it to install but nothing seems to happen. I tried Kext Wizard, same thing. I like Kext Wizard and have what is listed to do, but I fell like I am missing something. Can anyone walk me through this very slowly. I used Kext Wizard, find the file and install. Restart. But nothing and according to the instructions as the site, I believe I am supposed to rebuild or replace a kext. Is it interfering?

Help!

I don't see how you could go wrong with Kext Wizard, but here's step-by-step:

- Open Kext Wizard
- Click on Installation tab
- Go to Finder and bring up the folder containing your kext you wish to install
- Click & drag to Drag/drop the kext into the box below Select kexts to install
- Make sure System/Library/Extensions is selected (installing into /E/E is really not correct anymore)
- Click Install

Your kext is now installed.

It could be that the kext you are installing is not loading, not working, or is inappropriate for your hardware. You can see whether the kext is loaded by going to the Loaded tab in Kext Wizard and filtering for your the kext in question.

Thanks for the steps. That is exactly what I did and for some reason it is not working. As you said it could be a number of problems. I am not sure where to go from here but I think I may contact the author of the driver. Thank you for your help.

sadly but good too, Windows 8 got it OOTB to work. Wish it was so easy for my Hackintosh.

I'm trying to install the HD 4600 fix

sudo perl -i.bak -pe 's|\x3d\x86\x80\x12\x04\x74\x10\xeb\x5d|\x3d\x86\x80\x16\x04\x74\x10\xeb\x5d|g' /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelHD5000Graphics.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleIntelHD5000Graphicssudo perl -i.bak -pe 's|\x3d\x86\x80\x12\x04|\x3d\x86\x80\x16\x04|g' /System/Library/Extensions/AppleIntelFramebufferAzul.kext/Contents/MacOS/AppleIntelFramebufferAzul

sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions

How do I do this? Straight through Terminal? Because I have copy and pasted it and haven't had success. I'm missing something. Thank you for the help, I understand this is a elementary question but I've read for a week and haven't received a clear answer in my studies. Thank you for all your help and time. Long live the Rehab!

For what hardware. AFAIK, HD4600 *desktop* is supported.
