Hi all,
I thought my components would be very compatible, but I didn#t realize the issue of mixing an originally "Sandy bridge" motherboard: GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 (cheap via Amazon) with an Ivy bridge CPU: Intel Core i3-3225 (with HD4000).
Since the motherboard was advertised as ready for Ivy bridge CPUs (since BIOS F8, it now has BIOS F12; and the i3-3225 CPU was actively mentioned as supported on the Gigabyte webpage) I couldn't really think that could become an issue at all.... Could anyone confirm or exclude this to be a problem later with ML... should this ever work with ML - I got lost.
I managed to install 10.6.8 with original DVD 10.6.3 and iBoot Ivy bridge CD (tonymacx86); I also used another "Boot CD", which seemed to work with the original DVD as well. I tried even another bootloader variation for Ivy bridge... with ALL different combinations with or without -x -v -f GraphicsEnabler=No arch=x64, more recently (I tried it many times) I didn't need anything, but could only start with a booting CD (like iBoot Ivy bridge), but never could start from the SDD with Snow Leopard 10.6.3 or 10.6.8 (also used 10.6.7).
I usually get with MultiBeast 3.1 access to the web, can run UpdateHelper before running 10.6.8, but then the web makes trouble, Safari gets stuck after one or two webpages... When trying to buy ML on the App store or trying to login with 10.6.8 "unknown error" stops the procedure... With 10.6.7 I can get into the App store, the ID is correct, but only until I try ML to buy and to login with my password... Wunknown error"
I tried many system definitions (using MultiBeast or others, basically any useful system definition, but always the Computer recognizes "i3" with 3,29 or 3,31 GHz, but no original Macs use an i3... so is this the issue...
AND WILL THIS ALWAYS be a problem, even if I ever could get to Lion or Mountain Lion???
I meanwhile got a used ATI 5750 graphics card with 1GB DDR5 RAM - but don't know if this will help... I had thought HD4000 would be more than great for office use, but both may not work with the Gigabyte Z68 and 10.6.8 to just upgrade to ML....
Anyone who knows if the combination i3-3225 AND GA-Z68... will ever work on ML - and how to get there with a clean install via App store?
Hope my english is understandable.
