In exactly one week's time, Nvidia is expected to announce the GeForce GTX 660 and GTX 650 graphics cards which are expected to be based on Nvidia's GK106 and GK107 GPUs respectively. The GTX 650 will be a step up over the current GT 640 and the GTX 660 will be a step down from the GTX 660 Ti.
We've already written a fair share about both models already, but what now appears to be the real specifications of the GTX 660 have turned up on the interweb, courtesy of a leaked MSI presentation slide. As such, we know for certain that the retail GTX 660 will be different to the OEM parts, as the two are clearly based on different GPUs. The OEM version based on the GK104 GPU (the same as the GTX 660 Ti) features 1152 CUDA cores/shaders, whereas the retail version based on the GK106 GPU sports 960 CUDA cores/shaders.
That said, the clock speeds, at least for MSI's N600 PE 2GD5 will be a fair bit higher with a base core clock of 980MHz compared to a mere 823MHz for the OEM cards. The boost clock is is set to 1032MHz vs. 888MHz and the memory is clocked at an effective speed of 6008MHz vs 5800MHz for the OEM cards. The GTX 660 will also come with 2GB vs. 1.5 or 3GB for the OEM cards, although both models sport the same 192-bit memory interface as the GTX 660 Ti. Apart from these changes, we're looking at a card that's physically the same as the GTX 660 Ti, although some manufacturers such as Asus according to additional leaked pictures, are using a larger PCB, just as with some GTX 660 Ti cards. The rated power usage is said to be dropping by 10W to 140W compared to the GTX 660 Ti.
As for the GTX 650, we should expect a much smaller card, similar in design to the GeForce GT 640 with which is shares the same GK107 GPU. As such we're looking at the same 384 CUDA cores/shaders, 16 ROPS and 1GB of memory, but the big thing here is that Nvidia has fitted the GTX 650 with GDDR5 memory instead of DDR3 memory and as such the memory speed jumps from 1800MHz to 5000MHz. The GPU has also been given a boost in clock speed from 900MHz to 1058MHz according to the rumours. Interestingly the rated power usage is expect to stay at the same 65W as the GT 640.
Some claimed benchmarks have also leaked courtesy of a Chinese website, although we'd take these numbers with a pinch of salt. There's really nothing unexpected here, with the GeForce GTX 660 Ti being the clear leader, although the GTX 650 doesn't really impress and it should really have been the GTS 650 as suggested earlier. Price wise the GTX 650 is expected to retail for $129-149 with the GTX 660 coming in at $229-249 and as such the GTX 650 Ti should slot in somewhere between the two, both in terms of performance and price. Keep in mind that neither card is expected to hit retail until the 22[SUP]nd[/SUP] of September though, so this part remains unchanged from earlier rumours.
