I knew Black Friday was coming and i was increasingly receiving harddrives from clients with Thunderbolt and i figured it was a good time for me to build a new ideal Video Editing System. Plus TAX Write-offs!! All the components are from the Tonymac list.
I also wanted to try Overclocking both the CPU and RAM.
MultiBeast Settings
Overclocking CPU
Here are a few tweaks to make before even making changes to speeds
Turn off C1E, C3, C6/C7, EIST Function as these are power saving options that will slow you down.
Also one of the most crucial thing to change is the
VRIN Loadline Calibration to "EXTREME"
This is to stabilize and reduce VDroop.
Turn off Turbo-Boost, and enable Hyper Thread.
Limits in 10.9 Mavericks
i clocked up to 4.7Ghz and noticed that OS X didn't boot.
i kept going down 100mhz at a time and 4.3Ghz was the # that worked.
It seems that Mavericks 10.9 at this stage will not read anything above that.
I ran Prime 95's torture test 8 passes and temperature went no higher than 41 Celsius.
Safe temperature is somewhere around 90 C.
My BIOS Settings for Overclocking CPU
Tested Prime95 Torture Test 4pass. No errors.

I'm a little disappointed and hope to boost my RAM a bit more because Mavericks cannot handle faster CPU Speeds currently.

UPDATE: 1/22/2014
4.7Ghz/Uncore 4.3Ghz/2133Mhz
Getting to 4.7Ghz and 2133Mhz RAM stable simultaneously was bit of a challenge for me.I don't think i got a very good batch of CPU.
At 4.6Ghz i had a boot up problem but increasing the Vcore up 0.02V did the job.
Did a brief test for 2 hours while doing other things but the goal for me was 4.7-8 range.
I brought the RAM speed back down to 1866Mhz for this initial "4.7" realm.
i must have restarted 50+ times increasing incrementally for
VCore, VRin Override, Ring Voltage.
Though it booted, it would fail the Prime95 Torture test instantaneously.
So i rebooted and ran the Basic, Medium, Extreme testing sequentially and adjusted them until i was able to run Prime95 for 2 hours, then it froze. Adjust again and this time we completed 4 hours.
I now bumped the RAM back up to 2133Mhz and CRASHED.
Adjustments were made and tests repeated until stable for 4 hours on Prime95 Torture.
Increased the Uncore CPU Clock up to 4.3Ghz from default 4.0Ghz
as i've read about OC'ing should be within 300-500 mhz from CPU Speed to prevent being a bottleneck.
My initial goal with this machine was 4.8Ghz but with the fatigue and troubles i had with this particular chip i decided to call it OK at 4.7Ghz. For my first attempt at over clocking i am pretty happy not with the results and feel i have a better understanding of how the components actually work.
We have an editing job starting tomorrow which will take up 2+ weeks so i am going to bump this back down to 4.5Ghz & 2133Mhz where i was comfortably stable.
It'll be fairly intense real world job with 6K material editing down at 4K with delivery at 1080p so it should give me a good sense of what this machines can really do.

UPDATED 01/28/2014
Red Rocket Card Installation.
It's now time to put this bad boy to work!
i installed the red rocket card in the 3rd PCI Slot and booted.
Installed the latest mac drivers and launced RCX. Software recognizes the card no problem.
Then i plug in a usb thumb drive and BOOM. The computer freezes.
Reboot. Repeat. FREEZE again.
So i Rebooted and tried the USB on all other ports.
They either freeze or unmount by itself and eventually freezes the computer.I try a different USB drive and same thing.
Remove the Red Rocket and everything is back to normal.I was not able to find any answer or solution on this site but found something on Red User Forum.
It's a frequent problem with the Gigabyte UD5 Series motherboards.
The specific article are on z77-ud5h/th boards.
If anything is inserted into the 2nd PCI-E Slot, the speed of the 3rd slot drops down from 8x to 4x.
The Red Rocket Required a 8x.
So i moved the video card to slot 3 and moved the Red Rocket up to the 1 slot at 16x.
Reboot.
Everything seems to be working.... for now.
