Lion 10.7.3 from the app store

Comments:

The HDDs were all raided from my old G5 and various external usb drives and are the weakest link in my system. I'm tempted to get an SSD (or two) soon. I also already owned the wireless kb & mouse.

The motherboard was the cheapest Gigabyte Z68 I could find with a decent write-up so I figured it would be a good choice as many others would also be buying with a budget in mind and support should still be available for some time.

The processor seemed like the best choice (onboard gfx for now with potential for OC & gaming at some point). My original build was supposed to be a budget one but the artefacts on safari with HD 3000 annoyed me (providing the perfect excuse to upgrade the graphics). My PSU was then upgraded from my cx430 to accommodate my Sapphire 6870 (and there goes my budget hack).

The 6870 wouldn't wake from sleep via HDMI. I eventually found a patched ATI6000Controller.kext by fffeee on insanelymac for the sapphire hd 6870 which allowed me to sleep via HDMI (use with Duckweed frame buffer).

http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... 3937&st=40

I needed HDMI audio so I patched my DSDT with Toledas HDMI guide (Lion HDMI Audio - Part 2a: DSDT Edits/Discrete - AMD/Nvidia) viewtopic.php?f=162&t=31947&start=0

Once sleep and audio worked via HDMI I could get rid of the extra dvi cable and stop plugging in my hifi just to hear the football or youtube on lion.

I still had my ancient DBT-120 USB bluetooth adapter which required BluetoothFWUpdate1.2.dmg. My wireless mighty mouse and keyboard work, just my keyboard is a little slow to register after sleep, sometimes too slow to register for the chimera screen.

I wanted to use my G5 case but I got the Antec 300 as a stop-gap, it was recommended on a bunch of forums and not too expensive. I'll get round to it one day...

MultiBeast Configuration for Lion
file.php

Note - I removed ALC8xxHDA.kext and AppleHDA.kext (version1.7.9) to patch my DSDT for HDMI audio. I used Toledas 889 Beta AppleHDA.kext (version2.1.3)

Overall I'm very happy with my build. It is over clocked to 4GHz and the ability to switch over to windows for gaming and watching football is so convenient. I get about 11000 on geekbench and 51 fps on cinebench. My CPU cores run at about 28c according to SMC Monitor and the sapphire is usually at 27c on idle 42c whilst running cinebench.

For anyone considering building a hackintosh (who has never built a PC) I had never entered the bios of a PC or even installed anything other than a stick of RAM in my old G5. I recommend watching some installation videos on youtube first to get a rough idea of the whole process before you go in to detailed installation guides.

I installed lion a bunch of times and soon learned to take a break or try again the next day when i got stuck. I could stay up for hours and get nowhere with a problem which takes 5 minutes to resolve the following day.

Make a note of everything you do (even if it doesn't work) or you can go round in circles or forget what you've installed. Also saving a backup partition to incrementally use as you get the next part of your hack working or to use before you change something which could ruin your installation - carbon copy cloner is a must for me and its free.

Once I had a successful hackintosh I reinstalled using my notes - only installing the things that worked. This way I removed the doubt about terminal commands that appeared not to work and kexts which may have got lost in my extensions etc.

Re: (SUCCESS) Sofakings Build - i5-2500k Z68AP-D3 Sapphire 6870

Hi sofakings,

Sounds like a great build. I'm also planning to use the same Gigabyte board with i7 2700k. Do you have any problems with the audio and sleep option? In addition, I'm planning to use Sapphire HD6670 DDR5 gfx. Hopefully this combo will work for me. This will be my first hackintosh build.

Sounds like you installed both Mac OS and Windows. Any specific steps/sequence to recommend? I'm building this system for Diablo 3, not too sure gaming in Mac OS is better or Windows. Anyhow, no harm to have both ;)

Thanks for your help in advance

I have no problems with sleep but I'm using bluetooth keyboard, you might have to unplug your usb keyboard and plug it in again to wake from sleep. This issue is getting fixed in the next update to the dsdt database - viewtopic.php?f=14&t=50063&hilit=sleep+usb.

You may need to find a patched kext for that card if you already own it, if not I would get a hd6850 or a card which is supported "out of box". My card was supposed to work "out of box" but it still required a patched kext. There are lots of posts about problems with that card but they may have been resolved by now.

Audio is easy through the headphone jacks on the motherboard, through HDMI you need to follow Toledas HDMI guide I linked above.

You should disconnect the sata port on the lion hard drive when you install windows and vica-versa. Then you use chimera (installed on your primary hard drive with multibeast) to choose which OS you use whenever you boot.

Windows is great for gaming, I only play civilization on the mac.

Any problems just ask.

Hi sofaking.
Your Hackintosh (Z68AP) is working 100%?
I made my with this Z68AP MoBo and i7, but yet heppens occasional KP(one or two per day) and many app crashes. Safari refresh pages all the time too.
Do you know something about this?
Why very very fews peoples use this Z68AP Mobo?

Very thanks, see you.

Hi Theuer

What install method/guide did you use? What other hardware are you using?
Have you set your bios correctly? Did you use lnx2macs ethernet driver? Do you have anything plugged in to the USB ports when you get a KP? Any errors in kernel.log in console?

Hi sofaKing:

My full spec is:
MoBo Z68AP-D3 rev2 FB
CPU i7 2600K
Graphic ZOGIS GTX460
Ram 4x4GB Patriot
HD SSD Corsair Force 3 (and others HDD Satas for files)
OS Lion from app store + Unibeast and Muitlbeast + ComboUpdate .7.3

After your question, I look Kernel.log and found an error:
19/04/12 19:29:25,000 kernel: DSMOS has arrivedSound assertion ""ERROR: EFI ROM did not publish 'hda-gfx' associative property!\n"" failed in "/SourceCache/AppleHDA/AppleHDA-179.1.4/AppleHDA/AppleHDACodecGeneric.cpp" at line 331 goto ExitError

and here is a picture of last Kernel Panic:

Any idea for what's going on here?

Thanks bro,
Theuer

I deleted my ALC8xxHDA.kext and AppleHDA.kext. I then installed the AppleHDA.kext included below. I had problems until I removed these.

Backup first.
Go to system/library/extensions
move the kexts to trash
secure empty trash
run system utilities in multibeast
use kextbeast to install the kext included
Reboot.

You installed Realtek Gigabit Ethernet 2.0.6 for 10.7 (AppleRTL8169Ethernet.kext) and not lnx2macs realtekrtl81xx.kext?

The last thing I did was turning off "USB Storage Function", under Integrated Peripherals in BIOS. This was after my last kernel panic when waking from sleep - not had a single kp since.
