Unfortunately, I can't answer your question as my HTPC system uses the Zotac GT430 which has a fan. I've not changed or upgraded this system as it works great for my needs.
However, with today's Ivy Bridge and Haswell motherboards, you would not need a graphics cards as you'll have HDMI on the motherboard which is perfect for an HTPC with an appropriate processor. No matter what system or graphics card you'll use, you'll have to use toleda's modified audio kext to get HDMI audio. I'd recommend you post your question in the Buying Advice forum section. In addition to listing your system's components, state your version of OS X.
