Mountain Lion (10.8.1) on Intel DX58SO [FULLY WORKING]
Intel (R) DX58SO Motherboard Mountain Lion Installation Guide
by laim0p
Hello everyone, today I will be showing you how to install 10.8 on a DX58SO based system. Whilst it is not as simple as an EasyBeast w/ DSDT install (obviously) It is quite straight forward, with only one part giving me some hassle.
Here is a short list of the things that are REQUIRED
-Mountain Lion UniBeast USB (See the tutorial in the resources tab)
-user_01's 10.8 Pack for DX58SO (108pack.zip you need an account with OSx86 for this pack)
!Disclaimer, user_01 did all the work on this pack, I am merely referencing it, all credit to him!
-Chimera 1.11.1 STANDALONE installer (MultiBeasts inclusive will NOT work, this is a necessity)
Okay once we have all of those downloaded we can begin!
Step 1: Make sure you are running the latest BIOS, at the time of writing BIOS 5599 is latest, go over to intel's website and download the EXE installer, install it on windows and come back to the guide. Whilst in BIOS, set SATA mode to AHCI (it should say IDE as default)
Step 2: Insert the UniBeast USB you prepared into the computer, and boot into the drive (Hold F10 on the bios screen and select your drive) wait for it to load. Choose USB, wait for installer to load.
Step 3: Select your Language
Step 4: Go to the Disk Utility tool from the menu along the top of the screen. Choose your main drive and select it. Click on the partitions tab, now create 2 (Or one if you are doing a Mac only install) For the partition you want to have as Mac, select Mac OS X Extended (Journaled) as the partition type, call it OS X. if you plan on installing Windows on the other partition, choose "MS-DOS FAT" Name both partitions appropriately. Now, click the "Options" button at the bottom of the screen (near the +/- buttons) and select "GUID Partition Table" Once you have configured your drive properly click apply.
Step 5: Click next, next, next agree and so on, make sure to choose the OS X partition we created in Step 4 for the installation.
Step 6: Let the installer complete.
Step 7: When installation has completed you should see an "Installation Succeeded" Screen, if not check back to make sure you have followed previous steps accurately. Press restart.
Step 8: Again, boot into the UniBeast USB, however once loaded, you will now choose the "OS X" partition from the menu. Wait for it to load. Complete initial registration.
Step 9: Your on OS X! Though we're not done yet. We still have some work to do. At this point here is what ISN'T working;
-Sound
-CPU Power Management
-Sleep (I don't recommend sleep with this board, even after kext installs, I suggest turning it off in system preferrence)
-Bootloader
Lets get cracking!
Step 10: Open the 10.8 pack you downloaded from OSx86 (Thanks user_01!) Install chameleon from there: don't flame me! we are going to be using chimera, we do need this for one step however.
Step 11: Restart and boot from HDD. It will get to the apple screen and then black. This is good, turn off your computer after this step.
Step 12: Boot back into OS X from the UniBeast USB again. Once in, open up the 10.8 pack again, and copy the "Extra" to the root of your drive (OS X)
Step 13: Open up the Kext Utility program from the 10.8 pack, install ALL kexts from the S/L/E Folder AS WELL AS the 3kexts folder in the DSDT pack. (to install a kext in kext utility, drag it into the window)
Step 14: Install Chimera from the standalone pkg.
Step 15: Run MultiBeast, go to Drivers and Bootloaders/Drivers/Audio/Realtek ALC8xx/Without DSDT/ and check ALC889. Aswell as this go to Customization/Themes/ and check tonymacx86. Install this and reboot.
Step 16: Congratulations! You have a fully functional Hackintosh, with minimal effort!
Thanks to tonymacx86, user_01 from OSx86.net for providing the software needed to perform this install. And thanks to Apple, for making mountain lion, a relatively easy process for hackintoshers.
