quite a few of us on here have screwed up usb and we could really do with some help. I guess I need a 10.6.6 bootloader do I? Any other fixes greatly appreciated. Its not really an option to redo my PikeyMac.

I am fully up and running 10.6.6 now. I had tried to update the nVidia drivers with a file I had dl'd from them just a week or so ago - seems there is a newer version now - I had Retail 256.01.00f01 and there is now a Retail 256.01.00f03 at the link in the instructions above.

Previously Running 10.6.5

Completed a ComboUpdate to 10.6.6
Everything went great.
Only lost the Audio and Network
- - had to restore AppleHDA.ktext and IONetworkingFamily.ktext
Rebooted and everything went fine.

10.6.5 -> 10.6.6 using software update. Just needed to reboot :D

No joy here yet. I am not sure what this means: "Make sure you have a Mac Pro System Definition installed from MultiBeast, or it will not let you install. "

I selected MacPro 3,1 in Multibeast install and System Profile shows it as a MacPro 3 now, memory and CPU correct, it recognizes my nVidia 450 but, I am stuck at 1250x800 and no other options - I can't reinstall the nVidia drivers (fermi) - either Tonymac supplied or nVidia supplied, it tells me I can't install them to this version of the OS, so I guess I will limp along until the updated nVidia installer is available.

Any suggestions on how to use the old installer?

Frank

mount fermi drivers DMG file, right click on PKG > open package content, look at subfolders, there are three pkg files (if I remember correctlly: graphic driver, display driver and open gl driver) install all three PKGs and restart. At least it worked for me :)

P.S.: On my install over Software update was everything ok, I just had to reinstall fermi drivers like I wrote above. I will try app store tomorrow and report here

bye :)

Installed via software update, no issues, no overwriting of AppleHDA.

Ya- seems like the giant Combo Updater will give you all the 10.6.5 kexts, while 10.6.6 through Software Update (~100mb) doesn't really replace much besides adding App Store and related security fixes.

I guess the best thing to do would be to use Software Update on supported systems.

Verified. These are the kexts the Software Update/10.6.6 changes:
Combo.tiff
ATM10.6.6.tiff

There was no need to rollback USB (the one from 10.6.5 never gave me problems) or recompile AppleHDA (again). Graphics seems unchanged (in regards to fps in games).

I updated from Software Update, and I was surprised to have my audio still working when it rebooted. Did anyone else with ALC889 audio not have any issues with audio this update?

No issues with my update.

Is this site terribly slow today for anyone else ... or is it just me?

I have a problem after the new update. I am stuck on the boot screen. The spinning wheel just doesn't stop it goes and goes forever. Can someone tell me how to fix this nasty problem?

My wife went ahead and updated this morning without asking me and now when it told her to reboot it gets to the apple logo and just sits there. I built this machine about a year ago and have done none of the updates and everything worked fine. My question is do I need to completely redo the whole thing or is there some things I can try to fix it.

I7 processor and a p55m-ud2 motherboard.
Thanks
