i would buy a 6850 or 6870

Save yourself time and headaches AND MONEY buy avoiding the 6870. This card appears like a dream at first glance, but many have reported troubles with it in the long run. It seems to be inconsistent, and crashes frequently.

Who says so?

This is my experience, and the experience of many in this thread -

viewtopic.php?f=15&t=35138 -

My card is in the process of being replaced by the manufacturer warranty.

I think I'm going to go with the Sapphire 6850 1GB (the one with 40R in the model number).

http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0047D5S26/?tag=tonymacx86-21

Compatibility is confirmed for 10.7.2 in the HCL (don't know about 10.7.3).

I have about a week to decide, so if there is any reason why I shouldn't buy this card, please let me know.

Cheers,

Dan

Compatibility should only be better in 10.7.3 considering a lot of the update had to do with Apple providing better drivers for AMD and other GPUs.

I'm going to go with the sapphire card and do what this guy did http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=41945. However, I have seen someone say that they got it to work simply by using GraphicsEnabler=Yes, so it may be even easier.
