Hardware Sepecs.
CPU: INTEL I5 760 WITH ZALMAN CNPS 10X EXTREME
MEM: G.SKILL DDR3 1333 MHZ 2G X2
MOBO: GIGABYTE P55A-UD4P VER.2
GPU: EVGA GTX 285
PSU: SILVERSTONE STRIDER 500W
HDDS: OCZ VERTEX 2 120GB; SAMSUNG HD103UJ 1TB; HITACHI HDS7201075KLA330 750 GB
DVD: LG DVDRAM GH11N550
OTHERS: SONNET ALLEGRO USB PCIE; ZALMAN 80MM, 90MM FANS; D-LINK DBT-122
CASE: 2005 POWERMAC G5
Case Mod.
Project begins…
First, i have to thanks Tom Oh from ALBERTA, got the case with every parts in it. Here is the pic after taking out the rear fans.
In this project, I am going keep the case as original. I will cut out the IO part of the logic and solder some wire to connect the motherboard. here is the first attempt.sound input and output and two usb into 3 6-pins connectors.( need to clean all the resistors and capacitors, etc. on the board and wash it before soldering.)
and this is the final...
for the RJ45 jack. the original one is integrated magnetics jack, it have to have 5V power input...there for i brought a Keystone Jack from NCIX
http://ncix.com/products/?sku=53870&vpn ... %20TO%20GO
and solder the eight pins with a rj45 cable..works perfectly...
for the optical audio.. just need to solder the 3 pin and add a 1 uF capacitor to the 5V and ground. works perfectly..
for the usb. i have change the cables and follow the info from wikipedia, twisted the data+ and data- cable to reduce noise and crosstalk....like that:
works perfectly...
for the audio port.. change the connect into 3.5mm jack....easy..
the rear io done here..
this is the final in the case...see the gap between it and the motherboard... less than 2mm
PSU Mod
the case comes with the PSU. but need lot of soldiering. so i use my old one. take out the main unit and fit it inside..like that:
and relocate the 3pin jack. all the wires have shorten to fit the proper devices..
and i use the stock 60mm fans from the case for the PSU. but lower the voltage input to 5V to reduce the noise. nearly cant hear any noise at 5V.
this is pic during the testing.
i have added two HDD power cable later. and changed the pcie into 2 6pins jacks.
-----------
i brought a 3mm aluminum sheet and made a motherboard holder...kind of
and put some mobo raiser.. like that...
all by
---
forget to take the front io panel cable...but just follow the guide online..easy.
everything works. usb firewire button and led..no signal lost for the usb and fw...lucky..
---------
other parts are modded as following..
it have to cut to fit the atx mobo.
cut a u shape curve for the sata cable.
one of the sata power cable
the fans for the HDD.. cut the rear part.
and made a L shape holder for the case fans and speaker(buzzer)...work for more than 2 hours...by hand.
DVD burner. hate the black front panel...and soldiered the 2 wire for the pushbutton to open the tray..
rear case fans...every parts require modding....
and more work done after that...but forget to take picutre...
the position of the HDD unit has been moved a bit to left side..
those hold are all mistakes....
------------------
DVD-Drive tray open switch?and reboot switch. one on top of the case. one on bottom
another pushbutton on back io is cmos reset
