Doesn't sleep by itself after Mountain Lion update GA-Z68A-D3H-B3

ive never come across a situation where idle sleep works, but forced sleep doesnt.
its nearly always the opposite

this is help files folder building. can take a while, but should eventually go.

im gonna guess itunes was open playing music, or music was paused.

again, this issue doesnt make sense to me, as its usually the opposite.
sort the above out (close itunes and wait for sdmbuilding to finish), then check console for a wake reason when you try to force sleep

You mention that you've never encountered that situation, but my computer has always had that problem, when using Lion, and now after upgrading to ML. I have a hot corner setup to put my machine to sleep and it does, and somewhat regularly will wakeup from this. But if I go to Apple Menu>Sleep and put the machine to a dead sleep, it will wake up the system, monitors etc, but the OS is always frozen.

I've been walking through this thread to try and find a solution but haven't been so lucky. I was able to fix the external drive issue which is great, but no luck on the sleep wake issue. Also how long does the help rebuild usually take? Anytime I've checked assertions it always seems to be running. I've kept my system up for awhile, so I would figure it wouldn't be running that all the time.

both of those are preventing idle sleep.

sdmbuiding is to do with help data for applications, and will eventually go away once its finished building the folder.
a temporary solution would be to force quit the helpd process in activity monitor, but will just rebuild upon restart.
if it doesnt go away after a period of time, you can use the terminal command
Code:
launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.helpd.plist
which should permanently stop it.

the external disk issue needs to be sorted out before idle sleep will work, and will not sort itself out.
are you using the uefi bios for your board, or the older award bios?

Thanks for this samisnake!

I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out my sleep problems with my desktop, and this task just keeps going in my 'pmset -g assertions'.

I let it run for more than 24 hours just to see if it ever completes. It didn't, so obviously it is buggy or something on my system is buggy (network drivers?)... Interesting I have 10.8.2 installed on my laptop and no problems there with this task.

So, I finally had enough and disabled it. I guess I'll find out later if this is doing something "important."

Bump looking for a solution for the

problem. I have a hard time believing the system won't go down because I have YouTube paused!

try please sleep from the app store, works for me, and if I need something to happen when I'm away I just turn it off

autosleep works for me after killing the sdmbuilding process, but it will not wake from sleep. the console log says "Graphics Suppressed".

This happened only after I installed the EVGA GTX 650. It woke from sleep find when I was using HD4000.

OK, reinstalled the October 2012 driver and it works like a charm! except that waking from keypress or mouse press takes forever. Hit the power button to wake from sleep. Much faster.

what about this one?

Any idea?

EDIT: Solved with
Code:
launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchAgents/com.apple.powermanagement.delayDisplayOff

I've never read the pmset commands... Are those two pids listed what is preventing me from proper sleep? I've been changing things all week trying to get it to work... I'll try putting that command through terminal and see what happens. Thanks
