What would be a good aftermarket CPU fan for socket 1156? I have the stock intel cooler on my i5 750 and while being within acceptable temperature ranges, I would feel more comfortable if it ran a little cooler. Also, it's been running a little noisier lately, and I'm not sure if I just didn't notice the noise before, or if it's gotten a little dust or debris in it that is making it that way.

What's your budget? And how much would you like to tinker to fit it?

That's what I could find on newegg, but there are a bunch of different coolers out there, although most of them are a pain to fit, as you have to screw them on, usually with spring loaded screws and some crap. I really hate Intel's cooler mount as the plastic push-pins are crap and won't hold decent coolers, so the cooler manufacturers come up with all sorts of crazy solutions that are more or less painful to fit...

My budget is around $30-$40USD. Ideally I won't need to do too much tinkering, if any. Installing a fan is probably the most annoying part of building a PC for me, as no one seems to have come up with an efficient way to mount them securely on the motherboard.

I'm using the following: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103057 which I picked up at MicroCenter for $31.99.

I installed it using Artic Silver 5 instead of what came with the cooler and I am running @ 27C at stock clock rate.

Just make sure your case is wide enough to support this or any other cooler.

I run an i5 750 @ 4Ghz on the Freezr 7 pro in an antec nine hundred case (all fans set to low). If you go with that, though clean off the pre-applied paste and look at the contact block to see if it is rough. Mine had saw marks all over it and I could have used it to file my nails it was so rough.

I had to wet sand it with 1000grit sandpaper then 3000grit to get it smooth enough for me. It shines now and dropped my temps by about 5-8 degrees or so at 100% cpu. (make sure you put new thermal paste on it)

If you look at the comments at Newegg the reviewers complained that they bought the 1156 adapter plate when they didn't need it. Their current stock includes the new universal mounting plate 1156/1366/AM2/AM3/775.
