I've recently been looking into running a hackintosh setup on my Dell N5040 laptop, and have successfully installed OSX Snow Leopard (10.6.3) with only the ethernet and touchpad being an issue as the OS doesn't seem to recognise those, but thats not so much of an issue right now.

However, following TonyMac's iBoot, Multibeast + Combo Update method, I seem to be hitting a snag.

I've followed the instructions to the letter but when I restart the machine I end up getting a kernel panic with the following information

Code:
[FONT=Consolas]panic(cpu 0 caller 0x27cc0f): "pmap_steal_memory"@/SourceCache/xnu/xnu-1504.15.2/osfmk/vm/vm_resident.c:757Debugger called: <panic>Backtrace (CPU 0) Frame : Return Address (4 potential args on stack)0x10bdf8 : 9x21b837[/FONT]

I did read somewhere (my apologies, the source escapes me) that this may be a RAM issue, but I'm not overly sure at the current time. (I will be testing this in due course)

I've run the bootup with the following flags (in many different variations) but don't seem to have found a successful one yet.

Flags: -x -v -acpi=off -PCIRootUID=1 (and the 0 alternative) -arch=i386

My system specs are detailed below along with relative software information.

CPU: Intel i5-520M @ 2.40GHz (Upgraded from the original i3)
RAM: 2x 4GB DDR3
SSD: AMD Radeon R7 60GB (Win10 Home) (Internal)
HDD: Toshiba 160GB (Macintosh) (External, Connected via USB)
GFX: Onboard
Mobo: As Installed by Dell at time of purchase

iBoot Version: 3.10.1
SnowLeopard Version: 10.6.3
ComboUpdate Version: 10.6.8
Multibeast Version: 3.00

Right now, I'm just looking to get a working 10.6.8 install with ethernet capability so that I progressively upgrade (hopefully) to El Capitan in the long term, as i would ideally like to run xCode 7

Any help that could be provided would be greatly appreciated.

Will need more details on when the problem occurs (at what stage of the process) and information regarding your bootloader configuration (/Extra folder).

The issue occurs straight after running the combo update and NOT rebooting, then running multibeast and installing the Realtek Ethernet 81xx kext (plus the rebuild permissions/cache) option too.

after that i click restart and let the machine do its business, and that's when the panic occurs.

as for boot loader config, I don't even know how to access that as I cannot boot the os to access that folder, and as far as I'm aware Windows cannot read HFS+ formats.

Only install a minimal Multibeast configuration (possibly EasyBeast).

Save installing drivers/etc for later.

Ok, I'm currently running a fresh install with printer support and language translations removed (as I have no need for them) then I will install the combo update as per the instructions followed by multibeast with just easybeast selected.

i will post again with my results.

Mobo: manufacturer/model + bootloader(Clover/Chameleon/Chimera)
CPU: detailed CPU model + motherboard chipset
Graphics: all graphics devices + laptop internal screen resolution

For example, typical Ivy laptop:
Mobo: HP ProBook 4540s (Clover)
CPU: i5-3320m/HM76
Graphics: HD4000, 1366x768

Use CPU-Z on Windows to find CPU (Core iX-xxx) and motherboard chipset (HMxx), and graphics capabilities. For a laptop, these details are important and affect critical installation procedures.

Note: When specifying your bootloader, if using Clover legacy, please be sure to specify "Clover legacy"). Specifying "Clover" will be assumed as "Clover UEFI"

Added information as requested, also attempted the steps you mentioned earlier and to no avail.

Installed fresh installation of 10.6.3 to HDD and followed the steps for ComboUpdate, then ran MultiBeast and selected EasyBeast + System Utilities.

Once done, I selected restart and booted the machine, i then ran the -v flag to check if it was going to hang anywhere, it booted pretty much fine until "ApplePS2AplsGlidePoint : Dictionary Object : HIDDefaultParameters : ??" at which point it appeared to hang, I left it for 10 minutes with no progress and cold-booted the machine, again running a -v flag. it was then it returned to the "pmap_steal_memory" panic.

Boot verbose, show photo. Post /Extra folder as ZIP (remove 'themes').

Keep in mind you must remove the Intel graphics kexts. They require significant patching (with 1st gen Intel HD) before you can use them.

ok, I'll post the verbose output as soon as I can test again.
How do I post my extra folder when I can't boot to the os even in safe mode? Also Windows doesn't read hfs+ so I doubt I can get it from there.

ah I haven't been doing that with the kexts, I was following the guide which didn't mention them (not that I recall).
