Hi all,

I'm really struggling to find the help I need to get my Asus Z87 Deluxe Dual system up and running on Mountain Lion. Most of the posts I've found relate to Mavericks.

I've managed to get the system up using Unibeast, but am still booting from USB and have some major issues.

For starters I can't find a suitable DSDT file for my bios. I keep trying options via Multibeast and just keep breaking it! I've tried a basic easybeast installation too, but am clearly out of my depth here.

Has anyone build a system like mine? i'd be so greatful of any help. You can probably guess this is my first solo build! I should have chosen an easier setup!

Eh, yea, I'm in the same boat as you unfortunately. I'm using the Asus Tuf z87 Gryphon and I thought all was going well until the Multibeast section.

Basically, with me:

  1. installation has gone along okay via Unibeast
  2. Computer boots from HD as expected
  3. Multibeast is installed but regardless of settings, computer will not boot from HD without use of Unibeast.

I'm guessing we need a DSDT or something to get this going. I'm still within the return period at Microcenter so I'm hoping that I can just return the ASUS for a Gygabite.

Let me know if you happened to have figured this one out.

A DSDT isn't needed for that board, it has UEFI so you should be selecting DSDT free install options
in Multibeast. Start out with just the basics, audio and networking then reboot from the boot drive
without the unibeast usb. On second thought, skip the audio since your board has Realtek ALC1150 which
is not supported by MB. Just select the following and then reboot. Make sure you're using MB 5.5.2

You may want to just start from a clean install of ML to get rid of any of the previous selections
you made in M.Beast.

Other than that make sure your bios options are set up correctly. Set them to boot using
integrated graphics. Of course have your 6870 card removed when setting up initially with
the igfx.

The Z87 Gryphon has compatible audio and networking and the MSR (machine specific register) is unlocked so it is a good choice for a CustoMac. Once you've got the bios configured correctly and choose the right options in Multibeast it will function much like a GB board. Look for posts by forum members that are using the same board and ask ?'s and get help setting it up. That's what this site is all about.

You could try and follow this guide for now until more members build with the Z87 Gryphon boards.

The bios setup is similar for installing with the integrated GFX.

Hi,

Thanks for the reply. I tried this with a totally fresh install of Unibeast on a newly formatted and partitioned drive. Still not booting without a USB stick.

In other news, I've managed to get audio through my headphone socket, bluetooth via a belkin USB adapter (model F9T016) and running three screens successfully from 2 HD6870 cards. 2 DVD rewriter drives installed and operational too. Network card was a nightmare, found a kext here: http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/to...mavericks-on-asus-z87-deluxe-4770k/?p=1929235 under Vasko Tsintsev's post.

Still lots of problems though. No Thunderbolt (the whole point of the upgrade) and only 6 of my 10 SATA ports are being recognised by the BIOS, let alone Mac OSX.

When I try to transfer my old Lion applications etc, it all breaks again. It worked once, but not since and nothing's changed?

Thinking of giving up on the ASUS Deluxe Dual Z87 and buying the new GB thunderbolt board. If anyhere decides to stock it.....

Hak,

On the PC-based motherboards, the Thunderbolt boards differ from Apple ones in that they have no an onboard Thunderbolt BIOS firmware. This is why when you connect a TB device to the hackintosh afterwards it doesn't come up.

Barring the Areca Thunderbolt RAID, you can use most TB drives/devices with a hackintosh. Just switch on your Thunderbolt device first beforehand before you turn on your computer, then boot into the system - it will show up eventually. Also make sure that under OSX Finder > Preferences, you have checked that hard drives show up on the desktop (by default it is off).

As for the SATA ports, you may need to do some configuring with the onboard BIOS by enabling the Marvell driver but disabling the JMicron one; and/or addition of adding the 3rd party SATA driver using Multibeast.
