What a journey building a Hackintosh is taken me on. It has been a great run of success, failure, learning and frustration. Big thanks goes out to Tonymac, the great forum and really helpful knowledgable people like Stork and Gordo74. The Hardware part of my build went fairly smooth. The only issue was not knowing that I cannot use a VGA connection and would have to go with a DVI to get through the installation. For some reason my SSD drive was not showing up in the disk utility part of installation, but that was just due to me plugging it into the wrong Sata connector. I also was unaware of changing org.chameleon.Boot.plist when I went from DVI to HDMI. I finally settled on Uakari settings which you can see in the attachments. I must have installed Lion about 10 different times to try and fix a variety of issues. I finally went with Mountain Lion and could not be happier. I learnt to back up the system using SuperDuper to recover from a mistake. I read through lots of forum posts, listened to people's advice and persevered. Let me try and break down some issues i had.

SLEEP: Getting sleep to work correctly is a real battle. I was using the Rocketfish Model: RF-MRBTAD bluetooth adapter, but you could not wake from sleep using the keyboard. Then through the recommendation of Stork I went with the Targus Targus USB Bluetooth® Adapter - Class 2 ACB10US and that has been great. THe only issue is it does not automatically wake from sleep after a certain amount of time, however I dont think this is possible. I was also getting an issue with Lion where my system would wake itself after 2-3 sec of being in sleep. Installing Mountain Lion fixed this. I just use pleasesleep and that works great.

DVD Player: I was able to get this to work after initially getting some error message by replacing DVDPlayback.framework folder.

Network : I still seem to have a few issues with my ethernet IP changing to 169 and that means I cannot connect to the internet. MY WiFi kicks in so it is fine, but would like to fix this issue with some help. I am using line2mac kext.

Case: The only thing I am unhappy with the Antec Nine Hundred Two Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case is the noise seeming to be pretty loud. I think the Fans built into this case are not the best and most silent you can get. Would love some recommendations on Cases that people have used that are on the quiet side.

Apps: I was able to get Skype, Team viewer, Apps Store, Imessage, facetime, Itunes, & Icloud all to work now. I could not initially get the Apps store, TV and Facetime to work. I went ahead and deleted everything (WiFi, Ethernet, Firewire) out of the network settings, delete the Network.plist file and then reboot, add back WiFi, Ethernet and then it made everything work.

Sound: THis works fine using external speakers. Did not worry about trying to get HDMI Audio to work.

Overall very happy with my build and love my Hackintosh. Thanks to everyone that has helped with my forum posts. Would love some questions or comments on my build.

I forgot to put in my Cinebench and Geekbench results. I feel like both of these are slightly lower with Mountain Lion than they were with Lion, but not a big margin. Do my scores correspond to the components and system I have?

Did you also install a SleepEnabler.kext file for Mountain Lion to make it able to go to sleep? I had one on there for Lion but was getting a kernel panic from it so I had to delete that one. I can't find if there is a new version of SleepEnabler.kext compatible for ML or can you just use please sleep to make it work.

mleduff7 - Thanks fort the reply! I did use sleepEnabler.kext at some stage and it also caused my system to kernel panic. My sleep works perfect now with Mountain Lion. I just use pleasesleep because my system does not go to sleep after the time frame i set up in energy system-sleep. This way it forces it to go to sleep. Hope that answer helps.

iMrAdam,

I would be happy to give you any help I can. There are many more knowledgable people on this forum, but i will do my best. I spend alot of time reading through posts on the best components, how to fix problems and installation tips.

Once you have assembled all of your components your ready for the software part of the install. You will need to purchase Lion or M.Lion and put it on a thumb drive following unibeast. The next step is to make some changes in your Bios. This looks like a good guide: http://www.mymac4music.com/2011/08/...-5-setting-the-bios-and-installing-mac-osx-2/

You will then need to boot from your USB-HD by pressing F12 for the boot menu. I would follow the unibeast instructions. http://www.tonymacx86.com/61-unibeast-install-os-x-mountain-lion-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html

Unibeast 1.5 for mountain Lion, Unibeast for Lion.

Once you have installed Lion or M.Lion you will probably have some problems to get through, but nothing some time and effort cannot solve. Let me know how you go.

Does using please sleep allow you to put the system to sleep using the sleep option from the apple drop down menu like where you would shut it down at?

Yes it definitely does allow me to put my system to sleep using the apple drop down in top left corner of screen. Please sleep is really for the person that wants to have the system sleep after X # of minutes.

Hmmm, my two Z68X-UD3H based system sleep and wake-up just fine. (I'm still running Lion as my production OS.) I don't know what you guys are doing that you have to use PleaseSleep, but it would be helpful if you take a screen snapshot of your MultiBeast configuration. Or you can compare my MultiBeast configurations to yours. Maybe we can find the problem.

First, you need to be on BIOS F12 using the F12 DSDT from the tonymacx86 DSDT Database. The UEFI BIOS for the Z68X-UD3H is still in beta and is buggy.

Then, let's "try this." If you've got the right BIOS & DSDT already:
  • In the Energy Saver System Preference Pane, turn off the Wake for Ethernet network access; and
  • Make sure Start up Automatically after Power Failure and Restart...are unchecked.
I also have my KVM USB connected to the USB 2 ports above the PS/2 port. So make sure your USB KB/Mouse is/are connected to these ports or the front panel USB 2 ports.

Stork, Thanks for taking the time to respond with some good suggestions. My system work about 98% and I do not want to make any adjustments. I have been burnt many times on trying to fix things and making everything worse. Don't feel like I am doubting your suggestions would correct a sleep problem, but just feel very content and happy right now with my build.

I do have another issue that I hope someone has the answer to. Since I installed Mountain Lion I cannot boot from my external hard drive with either Mac Cloner or Super Duper back up. It just starts booting in safe mode. Any ideas.
