Updated 4-10-2016 - El Capitan 10.11.4

Although X99 is still not supported by Apple, this config works fine (no sleep). There are no great options for a mATX X99 board, yet I'm pleased with this board.

The latest bios is F22e. Get it here.

Set bios to Factory Defaults. Set X.M.P. to Profile 1. I run Clover UEFI and want CMS disabled so unlike the Asus boards we need a different way to choose "Other OS", set these options:

BIOS Features.jpg

You'll need these files to use this guide so download and save before you begin the install...

Unibeast - EFI-Installer - EFI-System - EFI Mounter v2 - X99 USB Patch - Clover
Installer EFI Folder - System EFI Folder

If you're using a nVidia series video card you'll need the latest nVidia Web Drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/100824/en-us (10.11.4)

Notes:

1) This install assumes you are using a nVidia GFX 900 series card, the appropriate boot flags are already in the attached EFI Folders. You'll need the latest nVidia Web Drivers:
http://www.nvidia.com/download/driverResults.aspx/100824/en-us (10.11.4)

2) This process assumes you have a basic understanding of both OS X and Clover

How to create the installer: Format a 8GB+ USB with GUID partition mapping and name it USB. Insure the Install OS X El Capitan.app is in your Application folder and follow this guide:

http://www.tonymacx86.com/el-capita...-el-capitan-any-supported-intel-based-pc.html

Be patient, this process could take 20 - 30 mins to complete. Once the Unibeast process is complete you'll have a EFI disk on your desktop. Dbl-Click it and "delete the EFI folder and replace it with the EFI-Installer folder you previously downloaded" (the folder must be named EFI).

1) Boot to the USB Installer and follow the prompts to install OS X. Restart:

2) Boot to USB again and select your boot drive (the ssd/hd you installed to). Run Clover with the following settings:

Once again you'll have a EFI disk on the desktop. Dbl-Click it and "delete the EFI folder and replace it with the EFI-System folder you previously downloaded" (the folder must be named EFI). Install the nVidia drivers you downloaded. The nVidia install will force a reboot, boot to your SSD/HD and you should now have a fully functional system.

(If for some reason USB 3.0 is not functioning properly, move the X99_Injector.kext from EFI/Clover/Kexts/Other to the system drive /Library/Extensions)

This is an extremely easy install that yields a very sweet system. Hope this helps anyone wanting a X99 mATX solution... I'll keep this post updated while waiting for Apple X99 support. Feel free to post questions and I'll make every effort to assist.

An Old Freak's GA-X99M-GAMING 5 mATX Build

kduvernay, thanks for the great write-up.

How are you liking the Seasonic SS-760XP2? Is it pretty quiet, even under load? How flexible are the cables?

Also, how are you liking that Lian Li case generally. Is there plenty of room with your setup? Would you recommend it with water cooling?

PS: It sound like I feel the same as you about big ATX cases - Don't like them.
I used to be all about "Bigger is better" where motherboard & cases are concerned, but as I've gotten older, I've come to appreciate being able to reclaim as much desk space as possible & still having a fairly powerful computer sitting on top of it.

kduvernay's Lian Li case has a slightly more desktop footprint (12.60" x 13.39" x 13.39" HxWxD = 179.3 sq in footprint) than a Fractal Design R4 (mid tower: 20.59" x 9.13" x 18.27" HxWxD = 166 sq in footprint). The Fractal can be water cooled, too.

I have a Lian-Li PC-A05FNB case on my desktop. It's dimensions are 9.69" x 8.27" x 15.16" with a 125.4 sq inch footprint. The A05 now contains my Zorro build which has a Z68X-UD3H ATX motherboard.

So, case options are out there with many options to reduce your desktop footprint.

However, kduvernay's Lian Li case has the benefit of being easier to access the internals after component installation since the top as well as the sides can come off. Thus, it has much easier access to update or change components vs. a conventional case which you have disconnect the external cables and lay the case on it's side.

Seeing this build here and how simple in steps it took you to get this setup is amazing! I'm going to follow this method and this build type and do the same. I'd of course make a few small changes, but nonetheless it'll be relatively the same setup. Thanks for sharing this!!!

The Seasonic is dead quiet under all loads, cables very manageable. Plenty of room in the case for good cable management, of course yes on water cooling, the box is running a Corsair H100i.

Thanks kduvernay, I figured as much. Just wanted to confirm.

Where it comes to cases, at least for me, square inches isn't much of a concern since I don't usually care about height. It's width & depth that I'm mostly concerned with. Mostly width, though I try to stay away from really tall cases.

I like cases like the Lian Li V359WB, because of the "top down" access, at least as far as the mobo/CPU/RAM/Vid card is concerned. I also like the fact that the vid card sits vertically instead of horizontally, so there is no bending with heavy vid cards like there is in tower cases. The great thing about this V359WB is of coarse the easy access provided by 3 removable sides. I just wish the case was less expensive:)

Looking at your profile and specs, you've already built it... How did it work out?

Nice writeup. Thanks for including the .plist as well. I battled the Nvidia Clover settings for awhile after adding a 960 to my build when I couldn't get the 4600 integrated graphics to work with my monitor. This will be a nice reference for my next build.

Haven't completed it yet. I ordered all components, just waiting on them to arrive. Trying to figure out if I'm going to use the Clover method or Ozmosis...

Did u have to do any kernel patches using Clover? I know with Chimera kernel patches are necessary...

From the post:

2) You won't find anything here regarding "Kernel Patching", Clover will do the patch for 10.10.2 (If Clover patches later releases the jury is out, we'll have wait and see.)
