Everything is based on the great post by kiwisincebirth:
First Powermac G5 (Late 2005) Project - Design According to Ive

This is my first mod & Hackintosh, it's faaaar from perfect, as I am not very skilled, but.. i tried at least.

Here is the Mod without the graphics and the DATA. I might made a post on this mod if I have the opportunity/time. I made this Hackintosh to replace my 2008 MacPro 8cores Xeon 2.8GHz. I use this Hackintosh for music production, mixing, recording, sound designing and similar stuff. I needed FireWire as my audio interface was fitted with FireWire. I didn't bought WiFi yet because I use the ethernet port, but I know the PCIe will work as I built another hackintosh recently with it.

I am running Mavericks, as it seemed to be easy to install with the latest UniBeast/MultiBeast versions, no DSDT thing needed.

BIOS Setup:
I followed some other build with this motherboard. Basically:

1. To access UEFI Setup, press and hold Delete on a USB Keyboard while the system is booting up
2. Set to Optimized Defaults.
3. (Optional) Set X.M.P. Memory Profile to Profile1
4. Disable Vt-d
5. I also turn on the Gen3 for the PCIe version
6. I disabled Wake on Lan, because it sometimes restarted the computer after a shutdown
7. Save and exit.

MultiBeast

I might have added the USB3 universal afterwards but didn't tested it yet.

What doesn't work?
Well,
- built in audio has a lots of hums, but I think it's my cable, and as I use my external audio interface I didn't search for a solution
- my fans are not running perfectly. I think it's because when I boot up my system is really cold (@20°C) so they don't run (but they run the first second I boot). I just need to go to sleep after the 30°C and then they will work.

What does work?
Everything else i'd say.
- Integrated graphics OR Radeaon Graphics
- firewire
- bluetooth
- ethernet
- ...
- Logic Pro 9 & X are running amazingly well, EPIC !

I recommend uploading your pictures and screen snapshots to your Profile's Albums; be sure to make your Album public. You can then use each Album item's

Love the look, clean and efficient.

I'm looking at almost the exact same mod, except for the video card. I would be interested in seeing pictures of the build, if you have them. Which front panel board did you have. The one with the pins or the one with the fins that attach directly to the motherboard. It appears that your power supply was modded to fit in the bottom compartment.

My compliments

Yea I won't recommend this video card because it's an old one, I just bought this one because it was at a very good price on eBay and as I don't really need the graphics for my purpose, I also thought i'd remove it.

For the front panel conversion I used one by [email protected] (can't find the original post) but there are now many solutions for the front IO.

I also highly recommend you to visit the Laser Hive, they do backplate, front IO and stuff.
My front panel is originally the Late 2005, so not with the pins but attached to the motherboard. But I bought one over eBay for 28$ with the pins in order to connect the cable I mentioned.

I will upload more pictures of the mod soon, but go check out the link I posted about kiwi's mod.

Yes the PSU is fitted in the bottom compartiment... what a pain to achieve this! As I am not an electrician my work here is far from perfect and clean but, for now it's working.

I added some pictures: http://www.tonymacx86.com/members/barenhvrd/albums/g5-mod/

That is super clean. Well, done.

Thanks :)

Not the best cable management, but doesn't seem to affect the whole thing that much.

While bouncing tracks in logic pro I peak at 58/60°C, which is good.
Normal use (Safari, Calendar, Mail, Youtube) between 25-35°C. Soooo cold in comparison to the MacPro 2008 and its 60°C in normal use !

Hi Barenhvrd, nice work, it looks very clean,

Do you have any advice for the PSU? I am about to start a mod which will require removing the PSU from its casing similar to this, and I was wondering if there is anything important I need to remember when doing it.

Does anything have to be grounded? Do I have to not touch anything? Do any parts have to be not touching other parts? Should the PSU be raised up off the metal, or should it be touching the metal of the case?

Thanks! I really don't want to break a brand new PSU so any advice would be welcome...

I kept the original bottom of the original PSU (just cutted everything else to just keep this part).
I used velcros to attach it to the bottom of the G5 original PSU but can't remember if it touch it directly or not, I guess it has to touch it in order to keep the ground contact.
I followed what Kiwi did, I saw you asked him the question, I am sure he will answer you better than me!

By the way I checked my BIOS F thing, it is F2, do you guys think I should update it to the current Fx ?
If so, how can I do it? Just downloading the current Fx from Gigabyte website and copy it in a USB drive and press F8 about Q-Flash then "update from drive"?

Thanks for your help

I updated this way and found it easy and no problems since. It seems most others have also found this update stable and addressed issues some were having. I haven't seen good explanations of what the bios changes fixed.

That said, if everything working, conservative approach would be to not fix it. But then, 'conservative' is probably not the dominant descriptor for most Hackintosh builders.
