Thanks

Internet works.
Audio iffy... A problem I REALLY need to fix for my work
USB 3 not working
Also the Marvell sata controller is not displaying web a drive is connected (I have installed the kext) and it does show up as unknown ahci sata controller.
Can anyone offer any help?

I actually wanted to wait with making a high end system after seeing whats upcoming,..but also seeing rumors for LATE updates for new ivy bridge procs in late 2013/2014,... With slightly cheaper xeons (seeing that they have PCIe 3) i might reconsider building. I am leaving TB for now,...).

Figured i would try it with a 3930k first,..but no pcie3 support (and i want 2/3 way sli,..).

Few questions:

- how much aint working yet on your build?
- do you need a special server case form factor ?
- i guess you also need a different psu? If yes, are there anynpowerfull out there?

Also wondering about OCing them. Looking, bluntly at GHz way, my single core cpu has 3ghz, these have around 2 or less. Ofc 16 cores. In what sense do you notice that they are slower, and when are they faster?

Mostly using will use it as design computer with some audio, 3d too,...games i might play, but not super intense. ( waiting for C&C generals 2 :D )

Btw; i might just go for this evga mobo instead tho; http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a ... 6813188119

Thanks in advance!

Please read my full post, as it outlines many of the things you are asking about. If you want a 3930k this is NOT the right board for you. This board is ONLY for Xeon E5s.
It also sounds like your workload does not require this much power, and a 3930k will suffice for quite a while.
The other board you linked to is ALSO ONLY FOR XEON E5s AND IS NOT MEANT TO RUN A SINGLE 3930K
If you plan to run Xeons on either of these boards then you'll be fine. However you would probably not utilize their full potential often, and for their cost, a 3930k would be a much more economical fit in price/ performance ratio.

Yhea, was talking about the xeons :) more because the pcie 3.0 is supported. Im trying to find some benchmarks if the speed actually helps alot. If not, its a bit of a waste in money ;)

Out of weird curiousity. Are you willing to try the new Intel Itanium Poulson, say, 4 procs as hackintosh? :D could be fun! (actually dont think that they will be supported at all :p )

You may want to buy this:

http://www.amazon.com/USB-Soundwave-7-1-Pro-Rohs/dp/B000OOG3N0/

So far anyone that I know that bought this item (when it comes to audio issues) was easily corrected. It will also enhance the sound of your audio speakers even more to help them sound even better if you decide to use an optical cable (if you have that ability to use an optical cable on your Speaker system). The Logitech Z-5500 has that option and these speakers sound even more amazing.

BTW, these were FLAT OUT the BEST speakers ever put on the market. It's unfortunate they don't make them anymore and have downgraded to a lower wattage output set of speakers now. If you can find them on eBay (personally) I would get the Logitech Z-5500 5.1 speakers.

I figure that since you spent the money on getting a slammin' hackie, you might as well go all out and get the BEST USB audio adapter (Siig USB SoundWave 7.1) and speaker set (Logitech Z-5500). Just to let you know I found a set here on eBay:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Logitech-Z5...ellent-Condition-/190701701184#ht_1797wt_1398

Any place else that has one is price-gouging at $600.00. I was fortunate to get two sets of these speakers at $250.00 each before they stopped making them, but I'm telling ya' this is the BEST OF THE BEST out there for PC audio sound... Hope this helps... Later...

Thanks man! Those look great ill definitely think about em...

On another note... has anyone had any luck enabling the Marvell Sata controllers on the Z9PE-D8?

... I would have preferred your motherboard! seems like enabling sound and ethernet is way easier with the asus! too bad I am stuck with the super micro for now...

Macs are now more than ever PCs. Apple has gone the extra mile to ensure that you can run Mac OSX and Windows on the same machine, i.e., they've gone a long way toward choosing hardware that works in both environments. To build a Hack is to first build a PC. To build the fastest Hack, build the fastest PC first as your primary goal, but do so buy using components that to the maximum extent possible you could place in a Mac and in a PC without compatibility issues. Think like Apple, not different from them in this regard.

Just get PCI-e cards/USB attachment for audio [ low end: http://www.atguys.com/store/index.php?m ... ucts_id=84 ; mid end [ http://www.amazon.com/s/?ie=UTF8&keywor ... 4gv18tdo_b { http://www.head-fi.org/t/545471/usb-sou ... d-usb-work ]]; high end [ check out a music co. like http://www.zzounds.com/cat--Audio-Interfaces--2418 ] , ethernet [ http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sonnet%2 ... GE1000LAE/ ] and any other function that you want to have (such as, but not limited to, USB 3 [ http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Lacie/130977/ ], SATA 6 [ http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Sonnet%2 ... ATA6PROE4/ ], PCI-e based SSDs [ http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/PCIe ... lsior/RAID ], etc.) where the same card/USB attachment works both on Mac and on Windows machines. Sonnetech has ethernet cards that you can buy from OWC. OWC, or a similar Mac peripheral vender, may have an audio (or other seemingly missing feature) card that solves your problem and works on both types of machines. It'll save you time and headaches, and may even outperform what you got as stock.

strangely, I can not get any other PCIe card to work apart from the PNY quadro 4000 graphics card.
Even the sonnet gigabit ethernet card which should work out of the box according to the wiki.
The cards do not even show up in the system report...
any ideas?

You may have conflicting drivers/ kexts?
Have you had any luck getting the onboard audio working?
If so could you please post the fix. I would greatly appriciate it.

Thanks!

Quick question, Does that video card able to supply all 3 monitors?

I have a 5850 and it is only able to keep up with 2 27 incher's @ 2560x1440.

Thanks,
