Since 2011 Tim Cook has made Apple into a multi trillion dollar company.

Three things Apple does really well.

Make Smartphones, iPads, Watches and Macs and the software that runs on them.

Make very generous profit margins selling Smartphones, watches etc.

Fight long drawn out legal battles with other companies that want a bigger piece of their Apple pie.

Now the US DOJ has filed a suit against Apple for monopolistic practices. They want to make Apple's Moat less difficult to traverse. Maybe let the poor Android users get a a glimpse inside the castle to see how plush things are in the Apple ecosystem. I have to doubt whether this lawsuit will make things significantly better for Android users but only time will tell.

This will drag on for years and probably not affect Apple's bottom line all that much. Tim will still be smiling like a king when it's over with. It will probably make things slightly better for developers and people that use Android phones. How much, we'll have to wait a few years to see.

On 3/22/24 Cult of Mac had this to say about the lawsuit.

DOJ’s weak antitrust lawsuit targets Apple’s past behavior

Apple already appears to be obviating many of the DOJ’s complaints by relaxing rules regarding contactless payments, streaming game services and super apps. Some of these changes, like RCS, have yet to be implemented, but Apple appears to be trying to head off the DOJ at the pass.

Whether Apple’s concessions will satisfy the DOJ remains to be seen — and likely will be litigated in court, possibly for years to come. But on the face of it, the DOJ’s lawsuit seems weak because it’s based on Apple’s past behavior, not the current reality.
