Similar to my tip#1. Make a clone disk. But a clone disk is better. That way, all programs, apps, settings, email, docs are also backed up.

The point of this guide is to get back up and running quickly (i.e. minimal work :)

I do have a folder on my desktop called "Hacktools"... containing different versions of Multibeast, Kext Utility, Chimera, my mobo's manual, etc.... which also gets on the cloned drive.

Smart move, Always good to have a failsafe switch...

First post updated regarding fix for majority of sleep issues.

Which are the official Realtek drivers (for ethernet) that you are suggesting?
Because i have that problem. After sleep, my network doesn't work.
I installed this .kext so that my computer could enter in sleep mode and wake up:

http://www.osx86.net/downloads.php?do=file&id=1948

Thanks

The one in latest Multibeast.

Another tip
When installing update ,boot from one drive and install to the other.

Why ?? Sometimes updates stall or lockup by installing it from another drive it will go through usually...10.7.1 ==> 10.7.2 this worked.

Hello esneik! THANK YOU - that kext allowed me to wake up from sleep!

The official drivers are in MultiBeast: Drivers & Bootloaders / Kexts & Enablers / Network
"Realtek Gigabit ethernet 2.0.6 for 10.7" and a similar setting if you're using Snow Leopard.

With those drivers and that .kext it worked for you?

Does that Syba 1394 card have drivers for lion?

No need for drivers. OSX will recognize it automatically.

That's why it's important to be a Texas Instrument chipset.

Yes, sleep works. however - last night it conked out my ethernet altogether - I couldn't get the leds that would usually come on w/ a network cable plugged in to come on at all. And also the motherboard doesn't "BEEP" through its speaker as it used to when it posts.

I was able to get the ethernet to work again after unplugging the power supply's cord that goes to the motherboard for power, as suggested elsewhere on the board. Left for 15 minutes or so it didn't resolve, but overnight, it did.

I just found this WONDERFUL LINK http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1165 which I wish I had seen before. I took out the SleepEnabler kext and also the one that was in my System/Library/Extensions from long ago: NullCPUPowerManagement . I restarted my computer and with the Energy preferenes set at a 2 minute sleep, it put itself to sleep and came out of sleep just fine. Please take a look at that thread if you haven't yet - all kinds of great ideas.
