I just wanted to say that (think) I finally got my system up and running with the recommended Custom Mac Pro build and Snow Leopard. Thank you to the forum for this!

This is my build:

http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/search/label/CustoMac

Intel Core i5-2500K
GA-Z68X-UD3H-B3 ----> My version is F10
AMD Radeon HD 6850 ----> I opted for the XFX 6870 HD 1 GB card
Case Corsair Carbide Series 400R -----> Cooler Master HAF 932
RAM 16GB Corsair 1600Mhz DDR3
Corsair 650watt

Notes:

Everything went well according to the regular install directions for Snow Leopard and Windows 7. I used iboot to boot into the Snow Leopard installer. I am using separate HDs for the two operating systems. 1 250 GB for Windows 7 and 1 250 GB for Snow Leopard. I am using Chimera to load the OS.

Just some notes:
  • I was able to install SL with 16 GB of RAM installed with no problems.[/*:m:1i62r5tx]
  • I couldn't get my Graphics Card to detect properly and probably wasted 5+ hours doing so because I didn't use a DSDT file for my Mobo, until I did use the DSDT in Multi-Beast I was getting Nl40 in System Profiler. So I would recommend using a DSDT/aml for the multibeast installation
    [/*:m:1i62r5tx]
  • I futzed my install by installing the ATI driver.pkg file that some were recommending.[/*:m:1i62r5tx]

Questions I still have unanswered:

  • I am using DV out on the with only 1 monitor for now. But plan on getting a better display. If anyone has any recommendations for a display and or boot options please let me know. Would I edit the Extra/org.chameleon.Boot.plist for this?
    [/*:m:1i62r5tx]
  • I see different icons in my finder for the MacOSX harddrive, it looks like a firewire drive without the icon (orange) this is strange.
    [/*:m:1i62r5tx]
  • Although I installed Windows 7 on another drive the only way I can boot into it is to change the order of the drives in BIOS. I was wondering if there is a way to edit the Chimera loader to point to the drive? I already tried Windows Recovery and bootrec /FIX MBR and it isn't working still.[/*:m:1i62r5tx]

If anyone has any input I'd appreciate it! Thank you TonyMacx86 for all of your awesome work and to those people in the forums that helped me.

Follow up:

I upgraded the Mac OS disk from 250 to 1, 2 TB Samsung HD. Partitioned
SL at: 953.36 GB
Storage at: 1.05 TB

I used Carbon Copy Cloner and migrated my old hard drive to the new SL partition. Everything worked perfectly.

Haven't had any problems or kernel panics, etc. since the OS has been installed. I am running 10.6.8 with all updates.

I want to purchase an ASUS vw246h 24" monitor and get dualing monitors with my graphics card but I want to make sure that they will work so I am still looking into this.

Has anyone else used dual monitors with snow leopard and an ATI 6870 1 GB card? I'd like to use HDMI and DVI outputs? Do I have to re-run the multi-beast and install any special drivers?

Thanks!

ASUS 24" HD LCD

Basically posting a follow up to the build. Spent several hours trying to figure out why I couldn't get HDMI audio out of the XFX video card for the new monitor. I tried DSDT edits and installed them through the multi-beast installer it wasn't working. I finally tried removing the HDA ktext files and that did the trick, I think. I posted the ss below.

How did you get it to work 6870 in snow leopard Tutorial please Thanks.

Count me in for wanting to know as well. Mine boots up fine but hangs just past the grey Apple screen. I'm able to get to the desktop when I boot off the iBoot 3.2 CD so I know it has to be something with my config. Thanks.
