[SOLVED] Valid DVD Drive could not be found -70012 - Mountain Lion

Not working for me I'm afraid. Tried both the patched version, and the unpatched then applying the perl patch, and fixing permissions just in case. Both resulted in the same thing: "DVD player cannot be opened because of a problem". It is a really old DVD player (2005 it says), a Hitachi-LG model GWA-4164B. The report says this:

Process: DVD Player [254]

Should I just stop being so mean and buy a newer DVD player?

See if updating the manufactures firmware on the optical drive first helps to resolve the problem. Otherwise use a new Sata optical drive as IDE drives are not supported.

Attached is a copy of the DVDPlayback.framework from a working virtual copy of Lion.

Move your current version of DVDPlayback.framework to the Desktop and extract the attached version in: /System/Library/Frameworks.
Run the commands again, hopefully that should do the trick.

Also included a patched version that you can try.
Personally skipped patching the Mountain Lion framework, patched the attached one instead to fix the error.

Let me know what you find.

Replaced the DVDPlayback.framework file in my mATX 10.8.5 install with the patched file, ran the Terminal command, restarted and my Pioneer BDR-208 is alive, recognised and accessible!

Awesome! Thanks for sharing! :)

Worked with patched version on my Z87mx-d3h with my BDR-208 DBK. I spent hours screwing around with it, I didn't work until I enabled hot plug on the SATA port the optical drive was plugged into. Strange.

Thanks very much for your suggestion.
It is an IDE drive but I have a SATA converter plugged into the back as my motherboard [MSI B75IA-E33] doesn't support IDE, so I guess I'm on a slightly dodgy footing to start with. Perhaps the SATA converter doesn't do a 100% job. I was hoping that I could recycle this old optical drive in my budget build, but maybe I should just stick a note up the chimney for Santa.

Santa has come up trumps with a new Samsung SH224 SATA drive which happens to work out the box with Mavericks.

Please,
anyone could post fix for 10.6 Snow Leopard?
can't find it anywhere on this great forum.
Internal optical drive not respond. External - without problem.

tried some of steps mentioned here, didn't solve problem at all on 10.6.

actually I get rid of that Valid DVD Drive could not be found -70012 but still can't see anything on my desktop and DVD Player is now like: "DVD Player cannot be opened because of a problem.

Check with the developer to make sure DVD Player works with this version of Mac OS X.."

any help will be greatly appreciated!

I was able to get an LG BlueRay Burner to work using a hex editor on the DVDPlayback file. It was quite simple to do and worked right away.
