Also X99 builds are a PITA currently. They work fine with Chameleon but as I mentioned I couldn't get chameleon to see this drive. And Clover and X99 has all sorts of issues currently. Honestly you will probably take a speed hit going X99 from X79. For me it worked out OK as I was upgrading from Ivy Bridge but I really hope X99 support comes soon so I can take full advantage of this build as I have a TON invested.

ThanKs a mil yeah it works gReat as a storage drive but will not boot. Ill keep the x79 it works great as a 6core and gets 18k geekbench. Dont want to make the jump to x99 ill wait till next gen mac pro comes out . Im betting they will offer the samsung sm951 ssd for that soon.

HI,

According to this article the SM851 will boot on mac towers 2012 and before:

http://www.anandtech.com/show/8979/samsung-sm951-512-gb-review

"I also verified that the SM951 is bootable in tower Mac Pros (2012 and earlier)."

Thinking if this is the case we can get this beast to boot with proper bios drivers...etc. If you hear of anything please let me know.

Thanks,

I have had one for about a month. I was only able to use it as a boot drive for a short time because of a bug in Clover. It doesn't work with Chameleon so make sure you get Clover working. Also hope you don't have an X99 system as you will probably just have issues if you do.

Yep! I can't wait for the price to come down enough to get one for my 2010 Mac Pro (5,1). See http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1685821.

Hi Stork,

Thanks for getting back!! I saw one for $250 on amazon for 256GB size - to me that is super cheap for what you get. This drive should last for years!

I still have my ocz rev 2 drive with 780MB speed I got years ago. It still works great - at the time I got that 760MBs was unheard of. If anyone wants that I will sell it. It works on OS X as a 2nd drive non bootable (think another user got it to boot but I never tried to do it.) It does work great as a 2nd internal drive.

Hi yes that is the same one I got with the same lycom PCI e adapter. I can confirm it works as 2nd internal drive for hackintosh. It reads and detects drive right away. Here are my speeds on UD5 X79:

Also this is the same drive used in the 'early 2015' MacBook Pro Retina 13", and latest mac book pro retina 15" that claim and do 2X speed. It is CRAZY FAST!!!!! Love this thing only need it to boot. I'd like to see someone figure out how to make OS X boot on x79 UD5 board.

Does the BIOS recognize the Lycom PCIe adapter with the Samsung SM951 as a drive? Or a PCI RAID device?

do you have it in a PCIE gen3.0 X4 port? try putting it in the x16 vga slot.

those speeds look like PCIE gen2.0 x4 port speeds.
