I've a fresh 10.8 install on an Asus P5Q SE Plus motherboard, and it boots fine after running Multibeast and selecting DSDT-Free installation.

The problem is when I run MultiBeast to install additional drivers after booting. No matter what I pick (audio, legacy USB, etc) the installation errors out after doing the system optimization step for a while.

For example, I picked Audio -> Realtek ALC8xx -> Without DSDT -> ALC889, then continue, it runs for a while, then it gets to "optimizing system", then "validating packages" and then "There were errors during the installation" and "The installation failed" appear within Multibeast.

The same will happen if I pick USB legacy support or JMicron36x ATA.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

The plot thickens... I get the same problem trying to install Apple updates (for example, iTunes 11.0.1)

I did run Disk Utilities -> Repair Disk Permissions just in case, but it didn't make a difference.

If it boots fine without Jmicron leave it out.
Boots fine I hope means you get to Desktop and can do things.
Leave out usb legacy support if mouse and keyboard work without it.
(check bios if you choose legacy usb in MB ..what have you picked in bios)
We are now at 2 out of 3.
You may need to remove those kexts by hand.

Only do one option at a time.
You cannot isolate problem otherwise.

Note boot shows last message it is able to display that does not mean that is the last thing it was working on.

See if audio alone hangs boot.
If audio is problem check audio part of forum.
Do not use voodoo. If you tried it, remove it.
If you cannot resolve audio consider alternatives.
Edited DSDT for audio.. this is only if you know how.
USB audio... this always works unless system has been radically altered
Bluetooth audio

You must have just posted while I was writing this.
I see your updates failed.
Now it is hard to tell. Recommend clean install. Do not check any options. Except ethernet if you need it to get update.
Download update from support site not AppStore.
Updates usually hose audio and you would have to reinstall it anyhow.

Make sure you know what is put in system for audio before you run MB.
Do one audio solution at a time.
If it doesn't work remove it.
