PCI Express Card to add SATA ports?

Hello everyone,

I am quickly realizing that 6 internal SATA ports will not be enough. Has anyone had any luck with expansion cards to add additional SATA ports? I just need to connect additional data HDDs, don't need them to be bootable, the more ports the better!

I've been wondering the same thing, and so far the Highpoint 2640 looks to be the controller to get for the price. Seems to be a decent performer in raid-5 (which is how I would run it). I've researched some cheaper cards based on the Silicon Image chipset by makers such as Syba, but I think it might be wise to stick with Highpoint for only a few dollars more. The last thing I want is to introduce problems into my otherwise perfectly running system and/or risk losing data...

Check out this review of the 2640 vs an actual Apple Pro Raid controller and feel even better about avoiding some more Apple Tax. The 2640 can be had for around $100 online if you shop around, or here.

If you haven't purchased yet check Amazon, about the same price(including shipping) but it is new v used.
