Thanks toleda. Switching to Internal Speakers did it. The other ports work for Line Out 1 and 2 as well. I'd swear I used Line Out 1 with the green port in Lion.

Something that seems odd to me, but maybe it's just how it is: System Information > Hardware > Audio no longer mentions ALC889.

Thanks again!

Not enough information. Search works well. The IOReg (runs in SL, Lion and ML, you did not try) would have said what codec you have. I searched and found the codec for your motherboard, the ALC883 . That codec is not supported in MultiBeast/Audio/Realtek. Your choices are to search for a 883 edited 10.6.8 AppleHDA.kext_v1.9.9 or 2.0.8 or install MultiBeast/Audio/Universal/Voodoo.

Hi,
i have the problem that digital audio out (optical) on my X77Z Up5Th did not work with 5.1 (AC3) passthrough. I did not get AC3/DTS in XBMC or any other app.(sometimes only distorted noise)
Is there a solution? Or did the chip on my board has no support for encoded digital out?

What can i do?
What soundcard do i need if there isn´t a software solution for my board, so i will get encoded audio out?

I really need AC3/DTS passthrough over SPDIF/optical out!!

Thanks,
Michael

Hi,
i have the problem that digital audio out (optical) on my X77Z Up5Th did not work with 5.1 (AC3) passthrough.
The only way to see 5.1 passthrough working is the DolbyDigital display on your receiver. Questions:
1. What audio solution is installed?
2. What is your DolbyDigital source (attach MediaInfo report)?
3. What player (XMBC/Plex work with Force Digital set)?
4. What player/audio device?
5. What Receiver?

1.: I want to get AC3/DTS over my AVR (Denon 3806) via optical cable (onboard SPDIF/ Gigabyte X77Z UP5 TH).
2.: Playersoft is VLC or XBMC (prefered). Media is DVD/BluRay copy on HD.
3.: I prefer XBMC. How do i get "Force Digital"??? What i have to do in setup?
4.: ? see 3.
5.: see 1.

I only get 2 chanel dig.out. My receiver only shows "Dolby PLII". On my real Mac i get DD5.1 or DTS without problems. It must be possible to get the same on my hackintosh...

Thanks for help!

1. What audio is installed on your system, AppleHDA.kext (MultiBeast/ALC898 with or without dsdt or other), Voodoo (MultiBeast/Voodoo or other) or, if neither, what?
2. Use MediaInfo to get the exact audio format from the media file (example below)
3. XBMC is fine
4. XBMC/System/Settings/System/Audio Output/DigitalCoax, 5.1, Buit-in Digital (settings below)
5. Denon is fine
P8Z77-I Deluxe/10.8.2/MultiBeast 5.1.3/With DSDT/ALC898 with XBMC playing U2 - 360 Degrees Live at the Rose Bowl (2010), I have both DolbyDigital 5.1 and DTS 5.1 surround sound with Optical passthrough to my receiver.

Thank you for your help.
O.K., i missed some info. Sorry, i am a newby. ;-)

1) MultiBeast 5.2.0/ALC898 without dsdt. (I think then it is AppleHDA.kext)

The other settings in XBMC i will test this evening. Now i must go to work ;-(
I will send you some more info later...

Michael

Hi again,
now i have checked all the options in XBMC. They are the same as yours.
When i playback a movie, i get only distorted noise. Only 2 channel audio is working or switching to analog.

Here is what mediainfo is saying about some files (i use different types as DVD-copy, mv4 transcoded files with handbrake or DVDremaster, Bluray-copies with makeMKV) :

Bildschirmfoto 2012-12-19 um 17.45.04.pngBildschirmfoto 2012-12-19 um 17.45.27.pngBildschirmfoto 2012-12-19 um 17.47.23.pngBildschirmfoto 2012-12-19 um 17.48.00.pngBildschirmfoto 2012-12-19 um 17.49.56.png

What is my problem? Why does my setup didn´t work? Shoud i use a dsdt? Do i have to fix something in AppleHDA-kext ?

Thanks for any help!

Michael
