Mountain Lion 10.8.2 Update Support for HP Probook 4x30s Users

As the title suggests, trying to focus this post on 10.8.2 update and Probook 4x30s users, so we don't have to sift through every post about 10.8.2 issues that may not be related.

Hopefully, helps with bug tracking, and troubleshooting and 4x30s specific fixes/solutions.

Please list your issues, and setup in this thread. hope it helps. cheers

At the moment unsure to go with the update, or just do a complete fresh install, seeing there's issues reported by other 4x30s users and the 10.8.2 update.

Anyone know if clonezilla works in backup/restore?
-i've just done a fresh install using 10.8.1 and then 10.8.2 just came out.
-thinking it might be easier to just make a new usb installer unibeast with the 10.8.2 ml app, instead of messing with this update,

as it aint clear yet what are 10.8.2 update related issues and the extent of 4x30s users are affected

cheers

Updated fix for “Still waiting for root device” on OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion

Updated fix for “Still waiting for root device” on OS X 10.8.2 Mountain Lion

Posted on September 20, 2012
Apple’s OS X Mountain Lion update to 10.8.2 has modified the IOAHCIFamily.kext once again, resulting in a failed boot with the “Still waiting for root device” error on the console. The previous fix won’t work, as well.
Here is the updated fix for 10.8.2′s version of IOAHCIFamily.kext. Don’t copy-paste everything into the Terminal at once, do it one line at a time. Pasting the whole code at once will result in the second half of the commands being used as your password at the first sudo command.
The following commands place a backup of the unmodified binary before patching it.

OK. Here's the procedure for going from 10.8.1 to 10.8.2 in a nutshell.

1) Download 10.8.2 dmg from Apple. Not the combo, just the normal one (http://support.apple.com/downloads/DL1580/en_US/OSXUpd10.8.2.dmg)
2) Install the update but DO NOT reboot when installer finishes.
3) Apply IOAHCI fix for 10.8.2 by patching IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext to bypass the "Still waiting..." error. Open terminal.app and type (one at a time) the following lines, pressing enter after each command.
Code:
cd /System/Library/Extensions/IOAHCIFamily.kext/Contents/PlugIns/IOAHCIBlockStorage.kext/Contents/MacOS
sudo /usr/bin/perl -pi -e 's|\x8b\x4a\x00\x00\xeb\x03|\x8b\x4a\x00\x00\xe8\x01|g' IOAHCIBlockStorage
sudo /usr/bin/perl -pi -e 's|\x74\x0e\x48\x8d\x3d\x72\x92\x00\x00|\xbf\xc8\x00\x00\x00\x90\x90\x90\x90|g' IOAHCIBlockStorage
sudo touch /System/Library/Extensions
You need to use Trim Enabler if you are on an SSD because 10.8.2 update resets TRIM support to negative value.
4) Apply AppleHDA from post #831 to get sound working again and update kext cache/repair permissions with Kext Wizard.
5) Reboot

In my case (Intel HD 3000) there was no need to patch AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext. I get full QE/CI and native resolution without any glitch.

audio solution

Patched two kext from 10.8.2 update for the Installer.

AppleHDA.kext
AppleIntelSNBGraphicsFB.kext

Need some feedback on AppleHDA if possible. I was having problem with audio when using KernelCache on my old system. However after clean install and upgrade to 10.8.2 audio works fine.

issue:: mouse right click is delayed

anyone else notice this?

I'm running 10.8.2 but keep running into 10.8.2 Supplemental Update 1.0, is this safe to install or can I update this system some other way?

i have already installed the supplemental update, no issues.

Nope. My trackpad and an external IOGear wireless mini-keyboard mouse (with USB dongle) work fine.

I think the wired Ethernet is working, too.
HDMI to a second monitor works a treat WITH AUDIO!

It just takes several reboots for the hardware to be recognized.

wow good to hear about the hdmi and audio! can use it with the tv, and maybe hifi system

i only did one reboot to get things working, as i also did the kext wizard thing to update permissions and cache.

okay, i'm waiting for the 256gb ssd to arrive , and plan to do fresh install 10.8.2 with the new updated probook installer, and a multi boot system.

also i found rehabmans mouse/touchpad kext very good when using touchpad. highly recommend it for mobile users.

i still wonder why when doing a fresh install setup process, the mouse touchpad works perfectly oob - out of the box. this is right at the beginning of installing to a blank hdd.

anyway, will post results after its done. hope the boot up time will be amazing.
