Hey Everyone,

So I completed the installation of mountain lion on my hackintosh, but it seems my Cinebench and Geekbench test scores are pretty low....I attached the photos below. I'm new to this whole hackintosh thing and have been using this site as a guide from the start. Everything went well up to this point. Any ideas of what could be holding back the performance of the CPU or Graphics Card? Here are my specs (which are pretty much the LGA Socket 2011 build from the CustoMac Buyers Guide):

- Intel Core i7-3960X
-
Gigabyte GA-X79-UD5
- 32GB Corsair 1600Mhz DDR3
- EVGA GeForce GTX 680
- SanDisk Extreme SATA 6Gb/s 120GB SSD
- Corsair Graphite 600T Case
- Corsair TX850
- Corsair H80 Cooler
- TL-WDN4800
- OSX ML 10.8.1

One observation I noticed is that the scores are lower the longer the computer is on....but my max scores were 14.38fps with open GL, and 3.68 with the CPU.

Two other notes that may or may not be a part of the problem: I'm using the 32bit Geekbench trial, so its not the 64bit. And the "About This Mac" doesn't properly identify my CPU, but Cinebench and Geekbench do....

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance! :)

Did you ever get this sorted? I've been researching a similar build, but this takes the wind out of the sails a bit...

You decided to use MacPro5,1. It requires you to add your card to AGPM kext. For the kicker, just switch it with MB to MacPro3,1 and see your scores go up.

No AGPM edits are needed, because of MacPro3,1 profile does not use it.

Hey guys,

Actually, it turned out that I had a bad cooler all along........what are the chances, right? That's what was throttling my cpu. Anyway, everything seems smooth and stable now.

@bluegreytheory, if you're interested in this build, check out this page: http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...mountain-lion-ga-x79-ud5-3820-gtx-560-ti.html

It has everything you need, just make sure you have a working cooler! Haha I've had this machine up for a week now, and everyhing seems stable....even sleep mode appears to be working!

@customac, I heard good things about using MacPro 3,1 with a build too. Though my geekbench scores is now 15,800, and my cinebench scores are like 10.38 for cpu and 38fps (somewhere around those) using MacPro 5,1, I may go experiment and try switching to the MacPro 3,1 and see if it changes anything. Thank you for the information/advice!

Edit: I am a moron

MattMAc2012: Have you tried to run Premiere Pro on your build? I am going nuts trying to get my GeForce GTX 680 to operate. It will not play video via PPro. When I click Play it just sits there and nothing happens. While I feel as though I have now tried everything there is clearly something that I have not tried because I continue to here that this setup works for some (like yourself) but not for others. You and I have the same motherboards and video card (or so it seems). I have 32 Gbs of ram and an I7 processor. I even have a Corsair box and cooler :) It seems like such a great build but I can't use it for the primary purpose that I built it for: video editing.

Can you tell me what you did to get yours to work? I am on Mountain Lion 10.8.2. I have installed the Nvidia Cuda Drivers. I have done all of the nonsense with altering text files to add the GeForce GTX 680 to the list, or even moving and deleting them, etc. I'm dying here.
