yes, you can patch dsdt and ssdt on a laptop or desktop
it depends on what exactly you are trying to achieve, a lot of dsdt patching is required for laptops, not that much for desktops

A few weeks ago my desktop found fine two display port (video) dual monitor, when I updated it to 10.13.5 it stopped working. I could not make the two video ports sit down. I want to use a dual monitor.
