Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

it looks like my celebration was premature - i accidentally let it fall asleep, then it wouldnt wake. Now on boot I get a voodoosdhc error every time. When I remove that kext i get other errors relating back to networking again.

I actually solved the problem (sorta) by installing to a different partition - i think repeated install attempts and deletions screwed up a partition on my hard drive. Then I was able to boot to a black screen, which I solved by deleting most of the graphics drivers, but QE/CI isnt working now, nor is my audio....and whenever I try to install something, I get a msg that I need to restart my computer (soft crash). For instance, I was just trying to update Itunes and it downloaded fine, but then crashed when attempting to install about halfway through. I get error about IOPCIFamily. I guess it could be the appleyukon2 file, but I dont know how else to make it boot.

It's not premature if you got Lion to boot. This will always be a work in progress. It is for me. My system crashes at least 3 times a day.

yikes i hope it is not that unstable, or it will be pointless to try and use xcode on it. maybe i will just stick with my SL install which has been money - completely solid without 1 crash. unfortunately only xcode 3 is allowed...

It's not that unstable. One guy uses parallels which (for version 7 and Lion) is notorious for crashes even on real macs. I used to use parallels and now use VMware. It's inferior but my system is now solid as a rock. Stick with it. The big cat CAN be tamed. ;-)

sudo sysctl -w net.statistics=0

sudo /bin/sh -c "echo 'net.statistics=0' > /etc/sysctl.conf"

also we need kext to upgrade 8600GT to 512 or 1024 ? is it possible !!

I was just looking at the guide in the original post to install lion on a friends inspiron 1720

I've already got a lion install usb from following the unibeast guide --> http://tonymacx86.blogspot.com/2011/10/ ... using.html

Is there a lazy way to modify that to get the same result as steps 1-17 for creating a bootable usb? I tried the usb from the above guide which worked on my pc and it fails during the install and I've no idea why.

Nice, I have a better GeekBench score with this. I have been keeping my kexts in S/L/E for a while. I find it gives more stability this way with Lion.

did anybody else have to downgrade their boot loader back to chameleon 1096 on the 10.7.3 update or was it just me, its super awesome how it runs now though

Ellnic you are the men, thank you for uploading this well detailed post, i have managed to install lion on 1520 with no problems at all exempt shutdown. Thanks again :)

Hello all,
first of all sorry for bad english :)
OS X 10.7.2 has been loaded and after a 1 - 5 minutes longer work the mouse, the keyboard, the image appears as a screenshot.

But each time I try to install Leo V2 my notebook freeze in different places (In the Disk Utility screen when I format HD, in install of Lion, when I configure my packages...etc)
The mouse freeze and the HD and CD stop working...some suggesions ?

Version of Snow Leopard 10.6 - 10.6.8 works fine on this machine.
