Installing Lion on a Dell Inspiron 1720 / 1520 [VERSION 2]

Hi, I have the same problem. Any hint where can I get NullCPUPowerManagement.kext ?

Thanks

I also have a Dell 1525 and get this error. I have replaced SLE and EE kexts with those provided in the 3rd link my macky_reddy that run a 1525 perfectly(supposedly). After copying the kexts over I used the kext utility and dragged the one to the l/caches/startup folder.

These include a broadcom.kext, so I used the flag "max_valid_dma_addr=1024" as mentioned in the first post, still the same error.
When I boot with the flags "arch=i386 -v max_valid_dma_addr=1024" it hangs at

Found Unsupported Chip ID = 0xfc REVISION 0x11
Waiting for DSMOS."

I have tried a million other flags and a million other kexts that are supposedly fixes and nothing has worked.

I have been working on this for over 16 hours learning how to do this, and I so ****ing pissed off I am about to go on a rampage and destroy every dell and apple product I see.

everything work great ..

i found fix for "nstat_lookup_entry failed: 2"

sudo sysctl -w net.statistics=0

sudo /bin/sh -c "echo 'net.statistics=0' > /etc/sysctl.conf"

the fix from

Actually I think it was apple.Yukon2, something to do with with network card.

I actually got a full install of snow leopard working, and I am just going to upgrade to lion as opposed to a full install. Can I somehow make an image of the system I am running right now onto a USB stick, so I can boot from USB but modify files (ie drag and drop) between my hard drive and directories on the USB?

Basically, the guy that made the best kext set for lion for 1525 said to install or upgrade to lion, then copy the needed files to SLE and EE...however, it wont boot until you do that.

I have tried to make a bootable USB stick from instructions here on tonymac, but the extras folder I have is weird (the DSDT is in a folder named DSDT being pointed to by something else?) and when I try and copy it to a boot stick, it does not work. And using other peoples premade images I get kernel panics.

Here are the instructions I am supposed to follow.

1. Firstly make sure u get a bootable Retail Mac OS X Lion DVD and install the Mac OS X System & then reboot into windows (Guessing windows already installed and in use)

2. Reason for logging into windows is snow or lion freezes without DSDT.aml in place ( you may also face this problem while installing lion so place DSDT.aml in root of the bootable usb drive or DVD before burning u can do this using transmac)

3. Install macdrive 8

4. then place DSDT.aml into snow or lion root partition

5. Now unrar 10.6.8 or 10.7.0 kexts for DELL 1525 archive and copy Extra folder and paste it into ur snow or lion root partition and replace & overwrite everything.

6. restart the system and boot into snow or lion

Alright, here are my comments:
1. Not using a dual boot. Planning on using 10.7 install USB
2. dsdt in root. no problem.
3. not needed, not dual boot.
4. i am planning on installing, rebooting with boot disk, booting into installer again and using terminal to copy this file from desktop to root with the command:
sudo cp /desktop/1525folder/DSDT.aml /volumes/Lion/ where Lion is the name of the hard disk
5. Finally,
sudo cp /desktop/1525folder/Extra /volumes/Lion/ where Lion is the hard disk.

Does this sound right? Will I run into any problems using terminal to copy from a SL or Lion install DVD?

Oh my sweet cheezus, that rocks. Youll have to forgive my ignorance about macintosh operating system, i literally know nothing about OSX. The last macintosh I owned was bought in 1995. I recently got an ipad, and decided to get a cheap lion box running to mess around with xcode and writting apps.

So as a windows guy, learning this stuff on a crash course, wasting hours upon hours researching things, I didnt even know the basics that would have helped me infinitely. YOU CAN REPARTITION ON THE FLY?? BRILLIANT!!!??!! What an amazing thing to do as an operating system. So I can make a Lion partition, install that and mess around with it until it is perfect with no fear, then set that as my primary.

So could I then delete the SL partition and gain the space for the Lion partition? If so, would I have to reinstall the bootloader? I have a dell 1525 boot disk, so that has been making things easier as well.1 minute left in the Lion installation, lets see what happens.......
EDIT: well, my bootloader does not see the lion partition. why not?

<strike>EXACTLY I have been able to start booting into lion, but again, it freezes/never advances past something waiting for AppleYukon2 ring size =1024

Other people have this problem, and apparently have fixed it, but I dont understand the fix and how I would apply it to this USB stick to make it work.

Heres the lines of code before the error

launchctl: Dubious Permissions on file (skipping): /System/Library/LaunchDaemons
nothing found to load
AppleYukon2 - Romless Init - getProperty failed
AppleYukon2 Marvel Yukon Gigabit Adapter 88E804Y Singleport Copper SA
AppleYukon2 RxRingSize <=1024, TxRingSize 256, RX_MAX_LE 1-24, TX_MAX_LE 768, ST_MAX_LE 3328</strike>

FIXED!!!
Here is how I did it via USB for a Dell Inspiron 1525 with Marvell Yukon 2 88E8040 Fast Ethernet:

First do this guide:

http://sites.google.com/site/nozyczek/h ... piron-1525

When you get to the end, right before you eject the USB stick to install on the 1525, go download the attached file Iuploaded here. Go to the lionUSBinstaller/system/library/extenstions and copy the file IONetworkingfamily.kext to your desktop.
Right click on IONetworkingfamily.kext and choose show contents , and then open the folder Plugins. Drag the file I uploaded here, AppleYukon2.kext to the Plugins folder. You may have to mess around with the permissions.

Then drag IONetworkingfamily.kext back into lionUSBinstaller/system/library/extensions/ but you will have to mess with permissions again. After the new IONetworkingfamily.kext is in place, I replaced the permissions to RW/R/R and ejected the USB Stick.

It finally booted up, and LION is installing on my 2nd partition now...when I just cloned the disk image and ran lion installer from within there, when I would boot back into the drive it acted like nothing happened....we will see what happens now!

You responded while I was editing my above post! :)

maybe edit yours so it doesnt confuse anyone else down the road?

EDIT: LOL Now I can boot into Lion, but it tells me I dont have a keyboard. And I dont have a USB keyboard so I cant continue!

locate the file in Lion /System/Library/CoreServices/SetupAssistant/Contents/Info.plist. Open that file and remove the two lines of text that say:

<string>DeviceSection</string>
<string>KeyboardTypeSection</string>

Then, repair permissions and reboot into Lion. That SHOULD get you past the mouse/keyboard check.

Outstanding, sir! This final tip got me booting into lion and running! It has been a long 3 and a half day journey that just got completed....now onto learning objective C! Thanks for your help, couldnt have done it without you, owe you a drink!

Btw, I was having problems with Bluetooth today getting it to recognise and pair with a phone I have. It looks like the problem is not isolated to Hackintosh users. Open the Terminal and use this command then reboot to fix:

sudo find /Library/Preferences /Users/*/Library/Preferences -name 'com.apple.Bluetooth.*' | xargs sudo rm -rf

Enjoy.
