Hi friends,
I am not a Mac expert. But would love to have Mac on my Laptop. I have a Dell XPS with 8GB RAM, 750GB Hard drive, Core i7 processor, NVIDIA graphics running Windows 7 Pro.

My question is, can I install Mac OS X Lion as dual boot on top of Windows 7? I tried installing through VMware, it works.. But performance is horrible. When I play any song, sound is breaking. Also I can't access my integrated webcam.

So is there any way, so that I can install it as dual boot? Any help or guide would be really appreciated.

Thanks!! Do you mean external hard drive? I don't want that. I have to carry it always.
There should be a way to boot Mac OS X and install it on my existing Hard drive.

Here is the hardware configuration I have in my BIOS settings:
Product: DELL XPS L502X
CPU: Intel Core i7-2630QM [email protected] (with Turbo boost upto 2.90GHz)
Fixed HDD - (S0) 750GB
SATA ODD - (S1) ATAPI
eSATA - None
Memory - 8GB

Advanced - SATA Operation: AHCI

Any help would be appreciated.

ijhu is right. The headache-free way is to use a different drive.

I'm guessing your laptop drive came MBR-formatted since it has W7 on it. You could shrink the NTFS partition and create free space for OS X, and use a hacked OSInstall.mpkg that skips the check for GPT. Then use Chimera to switch between them at boot

different ways of cloning a disk...

carbon copy cloner

you can also use the 'restore' function in Disk Utility.

and I've never used it, but another popular option is superduper

I'm intrigued... a hacked osinstall.pkg? how does that work with the retail disk and lion thumbdrives????
I have a new laptop coming tomorrow with windows 7 pre loaded so would be great if I could just shrink the ntfs partition and install my lion over the top!

Quick question, can you just buy Lion online and download it to a dvd, or do I have to buy the OS X dvd to be able to install it on my win7 pro laptop?

No.. You can't just download Lion and burn to DVD and install on your Hackintosh. It's not that simple. You need to have a running Mac OS X Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or higher to download Lion and then follow the steps (Videos below) to install Lion. I have also mentioned another URL on how to make dual or triple boot.
