Comments:

This build was the most Vanilla i have done thus far (32 bit mode)

The Ram needs to be in the white slots for the install of SL, then I added
2 more stix in the blue slots for a total of 8 GIG

PNY Nvidia 9800 GT EE Video card (above) works OOB

On board sound & Lan work OOB untill I installed "SL update combo 10.6.4"
But just ran "Multibeast" and then works GREAT.......Thanks tonymac
See my "GUIDE" here: http://www.tonymacx86.com/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4408

DYNEX WiFi card worked OOB in pci slot #1 and SL found it, AirPort worked right away.
No "Kexting" involved Can You Say "Vanilla"
**UPDATE** I bought 3 of these WiFi cards from Geeks.com and now they are out of stock :problem:

G5 Case Mod

I wanted to make it as close to a G5 as posible so I bought a
G5 case & a old "Coolermaster" "Wave case" then combined
the Motherboard rack (from the Coolermaster) with the G5 case
by simply cutting out the back of the G5 case to fit all the components....
MOD Found here:
http://www.overclock.net/intel-motherbo ... 3xsli.html

SPECIAL THANKS TO:
tonymac & MacMan for there hard work on this site :headbang:
& quattrofx for his detailed instructions from his experience found here:
http://www.insanelymac.com/forum/index. ... 203837&hl= This should be a "Sticky"

Very nice indeed.

No......

I havnt tried 64 bit.....No need to for me

Sorry I cant help
I may test in the future when I have time

Regards HT

HighWayTruckers I am always fascinated with your builds. One question, why are you not interested in 64 bit? and when should one be?

I'm using my Hack mainly for the purpose of recording and mixing music, and was wondering if it would benefit me? Are there any disadvantages of running in 64 bit?

why are you not interested in 64 bit? and when should one be?

Booting into 32 bit kernel for OS X client is to ensure maximum compatibility especially
for "Third Party Apps" like mixing software or video software .
Until every single app and driver are updated to 64 bit mode you Should not try 64 bit mode.........
Your computer will crash or wont boot at all !!!!

The default SL kernel is 32 bit which is more compatible. Note that the Snow Leopard 32 bit kernel can still run 64 bit processes that allows access to more memory, useful for some power users like you and me ;)

The only reason you have to know about 32bit or 64bit is if you are running windows.
With Windows there is a 4GB total memory limit with 32 bit windows.

Mac OS is different.
Macs running Leopard in 32bit can contain and use far more RAM than the 4 GB limit of
Windows in "32-bit" mode.

Yes, 64-bit kernel (K64) allows use of a very large number of RAM, 16 exabytes to be exact, but do you have any apps that need more than 8 GB of RAM?
Also some apps (older) still do not run in 64bit mode & you will see far more quirks
in 64bit mode then in 32bit mode...........
Yes you are suppose to get higher benchmarks on certain artificial test for running K64, but in daily use you won't notice a difference for what most users do on a Mac.

So Why would I want the headache?
Quite simply I don't

you can read up more on 32bit VS. 64bit on apples tech forum where
most of my explaination is taken from if you need to

Hope this helped

Best Regards HighwayTrucker

WELL in that case, please explain to me why I spent hours trying to get 64bit to work with my f&*%ing video card?

Thanks Highwaytrucker, you are a great help as always.

Does your card work well w/ Final Cut Pro X?

Trying to find out because I have been looking for a good video card for weeks. High end video cards are expensive for me.
