I've just been building a large fileserver hackintosh and was using the Highpoint 2720SGL RAID card, but needed more than 8 ports, as i've got an 8 disk RAID 10 mechanical array together with a 4 disk SATA 3, RAID 0 SSD array. I tried running the SSD's off the internal SATA ports on my Asus P8Z77-V Deluxe motherboard, but found the marvell ports to be have very poor performance.
I knew from the review on here of the 2720 card, that 27xx drivers were supported in Mountain Lion, however when i went and put the 2740 in, it wasn't recognised.

I had a look in the Highpoint driver and found that the 2720 was the only internal card to be included in the 27xx range, all the others were external cards such as the 2711 and 2722.

After a peek on Highpoint's website, i found the drivers for the new 2744 card, installed them and they had a different kext, rr2744.kext .
I did a quick edit to add the 2740 device id and it's all up and running perfectly :)

Patched Kext is attached here, happy RAID-ing!

I was curious if you have any issues in 10.8.3? I have the 2720SGL right now but need more ports so was thinking of upgrading to the 2740. Does the webgui on the Mac side see the card ok? Any issues on the mac side at all with you custom kext?

I found a 2740 on ebay but wanted to get your advice before I pull the trigger.

Thanks.
