I have seen several occasions where people were able to buy a wiring kit to hook up the old I/O to the new ATX mobo. I don't have this I/O card. The one in my G5 is a direct contact with the mobo type.

I need suggestions and help to make this work.

i havent seen anyone with that i/o get it working. most just get the older type off ebay or somewhere, and swap it out.

would be good to know if it could be made to work, but id also look into buying a new front panel just incase you cant.

As Dschijn stated its do-able, but if you don't have a lot of faith in your soldering abilities, this is the solution that many have used on this forum...

Here's a brand new unused one at a good price.

You can also purchase AlohaCab's cable (http://www.g5modders.com/alohacab/) plug 'n play solution for full functionality of your front panel. Total cost of both parts will be about 80 dollars shipped. Aloha's cable grounds the G5 front panel through the Firewire header as the original G5 did, so you'll have to do one of three things to ground the front panel properly

1. Connect Aloha's cable to an existing 1394 Header on your board if it has one.
2. Re-Route the ground pin on the Aloha's firewire header to a ground pin on your board.
(He may be able to make one this way for you if you ask prior to ordering)
3. Buy a PCI-E Firewire Card like this one that has an internal 1394 header.
SYBA Low Profile PCI-Express 1394B/A Firewire Card Model SD-PEX30009

Here's how mine turned out. Good luck in whatever you decide!

I got one of his cables and this is what he had to say about the firewire header before I ordered:

This cable requires that you have a Firewire port on your motherboard OR you purchase a Firewire PCI card with an internal mb header connector. The G5 front panel utilizes the ground path of the Firewire GND to complete the circuit.

I don't provide a jumper wire to use at the end of my cable to complete the circuit in other locations on your motherboard because I believe it ruins the look of an already beautiful case and cable.
