Ersterhernd's G5 PowerMac Case Mod

Aloha is adding a jumper to those pins on my cable (cost 1 dollar extra). I'll let you know how it works out.

It's the front audio that's got me puzzled.

Mines a no-show in sys prefs. I've read that jumping pins 7 & 10 on the audio header may work. I'm testing it with my iPhone earbuds, should those work in the G5 plug?

I have seen a few threads on front audio for G5s and the long and the short seems to be (I think) that while the cables may wire them up, because the audio_sense connection is not there on the Mac you need to do something else to overcome it. It is a (slight) con in my view that this is not really mentioned when you are buying the cables..........

In the end, many people [including me] pay for a fully functional cable (or so they think) but in reality then only use the power switch, LED and the USB. In some respects then it might be simpler (or cheaper) to just make your own cable for those three functions.

True, but that said, I really appreciated having the services of someone who could put together this cable so cleanly.

So much so in fact that I bought another, and would buy a third next time.

I'd say the same for the backplate and tray!

I have to admit that it's not the front audio I want so much as the satisfaction of a perfectly 100% working system, whether the function is used or not. The challenge is the greatest reward.

:)

In that case, there are ways to activate the audio part.....I think Sheriff in his build may have documented it, and I know Gus as well was working on it as well as there being a circuit by "snapman" (?). All the threads are there somewhere!

Edit, these are the most useful threads for this I think:

Update.

Connected pins 7&10 on the audio header. System Info now shows both 'speaker' and 'headphone' under Audio.

Got the front jack to work with an old version of voodooHDA, but not so far with the AppleHDA.kext in MultiBeast. Gonna have to go in and edit it. Have to somehow get headphones to appear in the output list in sysprefs.

Shouldn't be too terribly difficult.

is that
SYBA Multimedia Low Profile PCI-Express 1394B Firewire Card SD-PEX30009
as sold on fleabay.

Hi minihack, where do you connect the earth? Is it on the mobo or the case, dirtwegy.

No prob, it was a big help to me the first time, too!

Cheers!
