DVD drive makes random noises

Hi,

I just installed Mavericks on my rig according to http://www.tonymacx86.com/mountain-...3-installation-post-installation-guide-3.html and it works really well, buuuut the dvd drive makes weird noises every now and then, as if it's checking for DVDs.

Anyone know what that's about?

It's kind of a non-issue but it's bugging me.

Had this on my setup also.Just disable HDD sleep in energy saver settings.

Isn't that a bad idea? I mean HDD sleep is there so your disks don't get any unnecessary wear...?

Try to connect your drive to another port. Nothing helped me but disabling disk sleep. I dont think sleep matters much as constant spinup and sleep in theory should damage a HDD more then constant spin.

hm, still occurs with sleep disabled.

i did some more googling with different terms and some guy suggested to leave a CD in the drive, which is actually not a bad idea. i think i'll do that. maybe i'll just remove the drive and sell it at some point tho, never use it anyways and i have an external one as well.
