Crucial m500 as boot drive

I'm using a Dell XPS 8500 and it's working nicely from a Samsung 830 SSD. I bought a Crucial m500 mSATA card to use as a boot drive; the install goes fine, just like installing on the Samsung 830, but booting fails.

I have it set to start with the mSATA in BIOS

Has anyone any hints about using the m500 as a boot drive?
