Recently upgraded to Radeon 6870 which is supposed to work out of the box, but am having a small issue. OpenGL and graphics are fully enabled -- ripple effect works fine in dashboard -- but I cannot play AVI movies in quicktime or in VLC, and I have installed all available codecs.

AVI will open in VLC but picture is in black and white and very pixelated, but AVI will not open at all in quicktime. MPlayerX has no problem playing AVI -- and all other file types work with quicktime and VLC. Have tested these AVI files on my macbook and they work fine, with no codecs needed.

Have also noticed that animations for expose and mission control are jerky and nowhere near as smooth as they are on my macbook -- dashboard and launchpad animations look fine. Also, boot time is fast, under 20 seconds -- but shutdown time ranges between 10-15 minutes. Everything else works flawlessly. Any ideas on what could be going wrong, or if there are any kexts that I should try re-installing?

Here are few things to look over.
Is your GFX card fully recognized in about this mac as 6870 not 6800 series?
In terminal and run ioreg | grep ATY shows what frame buffer?
in your org.chameleon.boot.plist do you have GraphicsEnabler=Yes?

Card is listed as "AMD Radeon HD 6870" in System Report/About my Mac and GraphicsEnabler=Yes

Running "ioreg | grep ATY" in terminal gives me this:

| | | +-o ATY,Duckweed@0 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x100000343, registere$
| | | +-o ATY,Duckweed@1 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x100000344, registere$
| | | +-o ATY,Duckweed@2 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x100000345, registere$
| | | +-o ATY,Duckweed@3 <class AtiFbStub, id 0x100000346, registere$

your GFX is fully recognized and duckweed is the correct framebuffer. since you cannot play AVI in VLC or Quicktime. Can you still play other videos through FLASH such as youtube? What about playing video via a DVD disc?

flash and dvd work fine. can view all video types in MPlayerX. can view all video formats except for AVI in quicktime and VLC. AVI does work in quicktime 7, but not in the new quicktime, even with all codecs installed. also, boot time is under 20 seconds, but shutdown time is between 10-15 minutes -- horribly slow.
