Hey, I found out about the Aorux X7. New laptop made by Gigabyte. It's got dual GTX765m cards in it and it's frankly a work of art nearly akin to the Razer Blade Pro. I was wondering if it's hackintoshable? It's gigabyte, so I thought it might be.

There's a link. If anyone has one they wanna hackintosh, let me know if it works, and how you did it. Would love to use it instead of a mbp retina.

I'm really stoked about this beast. An SLI, haswell i7, up to 32gb ram gaming notebook crammed into a chassis that rivals the retina MacBook pro for the price of an entry level 15" rMBP which has no discrete graphics.

And I did some digging and there's some very interesting news about the X7 in regards to Hackintosh-ability : The usual problem with PC notebooks is that they use nVidia's Optimus technology which OS X doesn't like at all.

But there's an interesting flaw with Optimus : it doesn't support SLI setups. Therefore Aorus had to deactivate the Intel HD 4600 entirely so that means it runs on discrete GPU only. I hope this is of help to anyone trying to Hackintosh this guy. Long story short : This guy doesn't support Optimus (Which is good for us) and I want one badly !!!

Any thoughts anyone ? RehabMan ?

Happy to see Im not the only one to think of it! Two months I've been looking for a post on this.

Breaking news: The new 17 MBP we were looking for is out. Lets maverick the beast.

Will receive mine early April and give it a try, keeping you posted.

Somebody please let me know if the Aorus X7 can support a hackintosh setup.

I understand its hardware is way more than MAC needs but is it still possible to run it using a USB Boot or some other hack technique, check the stats below.

I am very serious about buying this laptop due to how awesome it is for a thin model but I need to know if I can run Mac OS on it. I'm currently stuck because there is no support anywhere on the net regarding this question.

Thanks to all prior contributors to this post.

patchbayarea: If you have done it please let me know as you stated you were getting this laptop sometime soon. Also if you haven't yet, let me know when you find out. Much appreciated.

Very good post! Thanks.
Is there an OS X distro for USB flash drive?
I want to try it but I don't wanna disrupt the Windows installation.

Please read the rules: http://www.tonymacx86.com/faq.php

"This site does not condone piracy or the use of illegally acquired software. Any use, discussion, links to or mentions of a pre-built VM, t*****t, distribution, downloaded, copied, cloned, hacked or modified installer of the operating system will result in an instant ban and account deletion. Piracy is ILLEGAL and NOT TOLERATED."

Distros are considered piracy.

You can install UEFI using Clover and keep an existing UEFI install of Windows, but there are some things you need to be aware of. See this thread: http://www.tonymacx86.com/multi-booting/133940-mavericks-windows-8-same-drive-without-erasing.html

Of course no telling how the dual-GPU nvidia stuff is going to go...

Thanks for the info!
I thought since OS X is open source[1] there would be legal distros available. Why not?
I don't want to install OS X in the same drive of Windows. I don't need dual boot either.
Would it be possible to use the regular/legal OS X installer to install it on the USB flash drive?

Not all of OS X is open source.

You can install it on an external USB HDD or large enough USB stick provided your USB works well with OS X (USB is many times a bit more tricky to get working than SATA).
